<p>I do have to use Windows from time to time and am looking for a better solution than what I have now (Windows XP, updated with lots of anti-malware software installed). I’m thinking about doing some things with Virtual Machines - say running Windows in a VM off of another Operating System. If the VM has a problem, blow it away and run a new one. Other options would be to run Windows and then do browsing and email in a Linux or Solaris VM. This is just something that I’m looking into for the future.</p>
<p>My son runs Windows for homework and playing games but he switches over to Mac OS X when he browses the web. Both kids run Ad-Block and maybe noscript extensions which probably gets rid of most web-based infection vectors. It’s a nuisance to run though.</p>
