my daughter used a northface that is now about 15 years old- she still uses it & it is faded & doesn’t have a padded sleeve but shows no signs of wearing out

I like my new Northface- it has a padded pocket ( with strap) that can be used for a laptop or a hydration pouch.

TJ Maxx has some really nice laptop bags - they are not backpacks though. I use mine for work daily. I paid $30 and it retailed for like $100. My D ended up getting one too to take to college along with her backpack w/laptop compartment. She thought it would be nice for times when she didn’t need to lug the whole backpack or needed something nicer looking. Just like shoes, I can be a bag addict!!!

The WSJ recommended ebags brand that MoWC mentioned is on sale for an amazing price. For those who want a good bag, but want to keep costs down:

I bought my son a nice backpack for laptops and now he says “everyone” ahem carries regular book backpacks or ladies shoulder book bags with a nice padded sleeve for their laptops only. I guess his is in our basement, so maybe it will go on Ebay.

The Ebags “Downloader” mentioned above is the one my S got this past summer. He says it offers excellent protection for his laptop and has plenty of room inside. And the price is certainly right! The orange interior is kind of ugly but makes it really easy to find things inside.
