@skieurope I already mentioned TCNJ in post #29:
My mom remembers Golden Girls…not sure anyone under the age of 21 finds the association relevant anymore.
Well, given what’s happening to the for-profit higher-ed segment these days…
Back in the olden days Slipper Rock was “Slippery Rock State Teacher’s College”. It was the joke-safety for a lot of us, just b/c saying it was fun.
Colleges within universities:
Peabody (at Vanderbilt) – Educating cartoon dogs since 1959.
Radcliffe (at Harvard) – Harry Potter’s school.
@ClaremontMom, I recently ran into a woman Mudd graduate whose daughter is applying to Mudd next fall, and she said to me, “I could be a Mudder who’s the Mudder of a Mudder!” I was just mostly impressed that she was a woman who made it through Mudd in the 80s!
Off tangent, but my husband went to a high school whose colors were purple and gold. I guess they couldn’t think of a good mascot, because they were known only as the Purgolders! Yikes.
Worth its own thread, so…started!
Stonehill College would be a deal breaker with this parent-- even as a Roman Catholic private school.
@LBad96 Sorry, the thread was going so fast last night, I must have missed it.
My D said that Case Western Reserve sounded like something from our liquor cabinet. Also disliked Holy Cross (as a name) for being too aggressively Catholic.
S thinks Ohio U sounds stupid. “Why?” I ask. “Too many vowels,” is his reply. Huh? He also thinks that Elon sounds like a perfume.
@LuckyCharms913 - of course: Elon Musk!!
@MaineLonghorn , did your husband go to school in Milwaukee? My dad was also a high school Purgolder. (I think the HS was named Washington?) Hard to imagine multiple schools making such a bad choice. Separately, but equally bad, my mom’s HS team names: the Goslings. Great way to intimidate your rival schools, right? Mighty, fearsome baby geese.
@rienrah, he was in Wisconsin, but the city was Madison. Too funny!
One of all-time favorite t-shirts seen our northeast college road trip a few years ago: Brown Rice Curry.
Misericordia. Makes my daughter think whole school must be miserable…
My high school mascot was the Daisy. (All-girl school). Sometimes we’d try to sound mean by calling ourselves the Killer Daisies, but it didn’t really intimidate anyone.
Miami University - in Ohio
Marlboro College
(Name makes you think you will get lung cancer…)
Washington University in St. Louis.
Half expected to hear of a Missouri University in Seattle.
