balancing credit card statement

Actually, @HImom, while I completely agree that enabling their financial mismanagement was not the best choice, (A) it was FIL’s money to do with as he pleased and (B) it probably kept my (#*)%#%& BIL from losing his government job back then (if BIL had to declare bankruptcy or something back then he would probably have lost his TS clearance, if not his job as well) and being in a bigger financial mess. He is a perfect example of someone who should not have had too many credit cards, as he ran them all up and couldn’t pay the bills.

But that is taking this thread a bit astray from the topic. Lets not do that.

I still like receiving the paper and have H and me look it over each month to see if everything corresponds to what we recall. Considering how many decades we’ve had how many CCards, we haven’t caught many problems but have caught a few & those have been corrected in our favor.

We commonly round up tips at restaurants so the bill is an even # (makes it easier to track too). When I catch a discrepancy between the receipt and the statement, its typically a careless math error on DH’s part. But I have caught several instances where the server (or someone) padded the tip.

Once I thought it might have been a math error or transcribing error on DH’s part (for some lunch place near his office), but then it happened AGAIN the next week (at the same restaurant). I have previously called the manager of the restaurant but they tended to make excuses rather than express appreciation. So the latter time I called the credit card company and let them handle it.

We arent talking about a lot of money, but its likely they are doing it on many, many bills. And it’s theft. Period.
