My DS just moved to another state where our regional bank (and where he banked) has no presence. After looking at local options in the new state (like BofA) and on-line banking options, he stopped into our regional bank and is going to stay with them. His debit card with them allows unlimited non-bank ATM withdrawals worldwide , not just nationwide (couldn’t find that with anyone else); he has direct deposit; and he uses a mobile ap to photograph any paper checks for deposit. No hitches so far.

If he’ll be in Boston for a while, not merely a few years, then a local bank or credit union can make sense because he’ll be able to establish a relationship and that may make things like applying for mortgages easier. If he may move, then a national bank may be better because it’s a hassle moving things.

I also would recommend TD. We have been using it since it was Commerce Bank in our area. I am still on my tow daughter’s checking accounts which is good for transferring money when they need it. And you cannot beat their hours of operation.
