Our daughter got accepted but I haven’t seen aid info. Is this sent at a later date?

My son’s portal has an aid letter as well.

Got it. I had to look at it. My daughter did it see it. Looks like she will most likely being attending

So exciting! What major if you don’t mind me asking?

It seems like Bard is transitioning to a meets need school. If any of you received a merit award, did you complete FAFSA & CSS or just CSS. In some places it implies that one is automatically considered for scholarships and in others it says CSS is required for institutional aid.

My son was accepted but no merit was included in his acceptance letter. I’m just wondering if (1) we should have filed FAFSA/CSS for merit and that is why he did not get one; or (2) he was considered for merit but did not receive it; or (3) Bard is entirely done awarding merit and only meets financial need.

Anyone know?

This summer, Bard’s financial aid office told me that they only meet financial need. I was still confused because their website lists several scholarships that appear to be merit-based from the description, but maybe you have to have financial need as well? I asked this question several times & never got a direct answer. The FAQs on their website say that they only offer need-based aid:

Does Bard offer merit aid?
No, Bard offers need-based financial aid. The College is a need-based aid only institution and prioritizes its financial aid for students who could not afford to enroll without the College’s support. For more information, visit Financial Aid Award Procedures (bard.edu) , Types of Aid at Bard and Undergraduate Admission (bard.edu).

Bard was also the only school whose net price calculator indicated that they would not meet our (moderate) financial need, although they say they meet need for EA applicants (I’ve run probably 40 NPCs & never gotten another result like this–it showed a gap of $18,000). The financial aid office was unable to explain this result when I asked.

My S25 would need merit aid + financial need met for Bard to work, so in the end he did not apply, even though we had a great visit there. I know that Bard prioritizes supporting high-need students and I love that about them. But it didn’t seem like they were going to be a financial fit for our family.

Last summer, I asked on here about Bard’s ambiguity around merit/need-based $ & received this answer:

I still think Bard is a great school; hope the finances end up working out for you!

Does Bard have official re-visit days for accepted students? If an accepted student would like to sit in on classes, talk with department heads, spend more time on campus, what is the best way to do that?

Thanks!

@DW98 She is looking at History right now.

They had one last year in April.

I am stalking the Bard site waiting for the date. Based on when it has been in previous years, my guess is it will be Saturday April 12th, which is when my son is supposed to have a science competition. Would be nice to have the date on the calendar! We visited places so long ago, I feel like these admitted students days will be so important for his decision.

For anyone interested, the registration is open for admitted students days (April 5 and 26).
