It seems like a lot of accepted/deferred/rejected ladies (and oh, there are many) that haven’t posted here a lot so I decided to finally get the ball rolling again and post my stats.

**Decision: Accepted **

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (CR/M/W): 590/670/660 (1920)
[] ACT: N/A
[] SAT IIs: Bio-M: 740; Math I:690 (I also sent Math II, which was a 660, but specified on my common app that I wanted to show my Bio and Math I)

[] Summer Activities:
Did all my volunteer work in the summer, as well as an AP Bio prerequisite course summer of 10th, and Algebra II course in summer of 9th
[] Barnard Essays + Common App: Really kickass. My common app essay was about a personal moment where I realized that everything is eventually forgotten. My Why Barnard supplement highlighted their learning style and how that carries beyond the college years; I chose Quan-Am, the first female Buddha, as the woman I wanted to talk with; for my unafraid supplement I wrote about the first time I ever crossed a street alone; and for my community supplement I wrote about how the street harassment I face as a young woman in my neighborhood has empowered me to defend other’s and their rights.
[] Teacher Recommendations: Really really wonderful. I got my Bio/current AP Enviro teacher and my British Lit teacher to do it (both female) and they highlighted a lot of my personal attributes.
[] Counselor Rec: I really don’t know.
[] Additional Rec: N/A
[li] Interview: Went wonderfully, I really connected with my regional adviser in my interests of study (she had the same interests when she attended Barnard), was really honest about my enthusiasm, and even recommended a book for her that she was very interested in.[/li][/ul]

Other[ul]
[] State: NJ
[] Country: USA
[] School Type: Public school with around 400-500 students. Somewhat competitive.
[] Income Bracket: Not 100% sure, but we’re pretty middle-class.
[li] Diversity Status (URM/legacy/first generation college, etc.): I’m a 2nd generation Asian, and my father works as an IT developer at Columbia U.[/ul]
[/li]

Reflections[ul]
[] Strengths: My extracurricular and community work is small compared to others, but I have a lot of dedication to them. But I think my strengths are my personality and writing, since I objectively believe I have a unique view to stand over other applicants. I am in no way a cookie cutter Asian.
[] Weaknesses: My scores and my transcript has a few B+'s littered here and there.
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Solely I believe that I got in because of my personality that I really worked hard to show in my writing and interview. My scores are on the low end of the middle 50% and with those alone I don’t think I had a chance of getting in. A lot of people may also try to believe that my father guaranteed my acceptance into Barnard, but to give you an insider’s word, his position really has no pull in the Barnard admissions process, especially since Barnard is pulling more and more away from the Columbia affiliation. If you choose not to believe me, then fine, but even with my father’s help I believe I truly deserved this.
[] Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: I applied to Rutgers, which was due on Dec 1st, and I got accepted with a Scarlet Scholarship. I was also planning on applying to Yale, Columbia, Harvard, Wellesley, Smith, and Bryn Mawr if I were to be rejected. But thank goodness, I wasn’t and I couldn’t be happier. [/ul]
