BART strike

Tips for Coping with the BART Strike Set to Begin Sunday the 16th at Midnight

If you are a commuter in the Bay Area there is a big chance your travel routine will be upset in the coming days. Review the following tips to help you manage this inconvenience.

* If you currently use a Park-and-Ride lot, arrive early and have a contingency plan in case it is full.

 • Consider carpooling or telecommuting–roads will most likely be very congested, and other transit operators have very limited capability to expand service. Click here to join a carpool: 511.org - Your Bay Area travel guide.

 • If carpooling or telecommuting are not options, consider adjusting your work hours (leave early or stay late), allowing extra time for your trip, or even avoiding getting on the roadway altogether.

 • If you do decide to drive, stay up-to-date on current traffic conditions, construction events, and driving times by using the interactive Traffic and Driving Times map at: 511.org - Your Bay Area travel guide and 511.org – Traffic: Traffic Map with Driving Times or by calling 511 (when connected say either “traffic conditions” or “driving times” from the main menu). When driving you should expect extended metering light hours on bridges and on-ramps, longer travel times, and heavy traffic.

 • In the event of a strike, BART will provide limited charter bus service between East Bay BART stations and downtown San Francisco for more information on this service visit BART - Official updates and options in the event of a BART strike
