Basement Redo - cheap

Depending on how “chunky” the walls are, you might want to consider spraying the paint onto the walls. You can rent a paint sprayer…I’d likely buy the roller the paint store recommends, try a section and see the results. If it’s too grabby to the roller, think about a sprayer.

If the texture of the paneling is uneven, go with flat paint - no sheen or gloss. The more sheen, the more unevenness will show.

As for color, paint color should be the last major item selected. Start with swatches that match the unchangeables, like the sofa, and don’t forget the ceiling. SInce you are remnant hunting, get your rug before picking a wall color. In a basement, go with a darker floor and a lighter wall. Light colored floors jump up at the viewer; darker floors will recede and make a space look taller.

Darker floor will also help mask any stains from the dirt that will get tracked in. As we know, according to the Maxwell-Boltzmann’s law, the probability of dirt being on the lower floors is higher… :D
