Son received an email about two additional “ask me anything” from Dean of Admission on 12/20 and 1/03 - hope that’s not a bad sign.
I think it went out to their general mailing list for ‘24 applicants and potential applicants. We have one child there and our S24 toured this summer. Not a fit for him, and he did not apply. He must be on their email list from touring, because we got the email too.
Best of luck to your child, I remember from our D23 applying ED1 last year that these weeks were so stressful.
I’m now guessing next Saturday, but who knows!
ED1 notification is, afaik, usually mid December. I expect people will be notified on the 16th, probably at around 8 a.m. Don’t quote me on that!
Good luck to all who are waiting with bated breath!
Do you think it is later than last year because of a influx of applications, or the CSS? Or anything, really.
I suggest we wait until Saturday to find out😊
Daughter received an email stating decisions will be available Saturday, December 16th by noon ET. They will also get a reminder email Saturday morning.
Good luck everybody!!!
Our D was deferred to RD.
I got deferred as well.
My daughter was admitted.
Our D23 was deferred to RD from ED 1 last year too. It was a tough day, especially right before Christmas.
In mid-February, she wrote a concise but thoughtful letter of continued interest and emailed it as an attachment to her regional AO. She talked about how Bates was always and remained her top choice, discussed highlights from campus tours, and probably most helpfully, she drew parallels between a few Bates programs and volunteer work that she was currently doing. She closed with letting them know that if she was admitted, she would attend. She was admitted RD, and is a very happy Bobcat. Hug those deferred kiddos tight, they will land in a great place.
Accepted! So excited to be a Bobcat!
Daughter accepted! It’s such a great fit - we’re so excited for her to join the community there!
Daughter was accepted. Good luck to all the people deferred to RD. I will keep my fingers crossed for you and I bet great things will come your way.
I’d love to get your input. My daughter is 2025 at Exeter, and I am so confused about how the Exeter grading scale – and grades in general at PEA – might impact her college admission chances. She was straight As in public school, but more of a B student at Exeter… while doing much harder work! (I mean, I’m sure she’d still be straight As at our local public school.) Do you know where I could look to get an understanding of how college admissions people look at grades from a place like PEA? thanks!
Not sure this belongs in this forum. But to answer your question, your CC at your school can answer that for you.
The colleges know, btw.
Just curious if anyone knows the % of deferrals to RD for Bates? D24 will write her LOCI this week. So far she has 4 acceptances with merit aid at less selective schools but her top choice remains Bates. I’m wondering if her current B in AP Calc. is going to hurt, even though she’s a psych major. Unfortunately the first day of school the teacher had a test which everyone in the class failed. D24 worked hard to bring that grade up but starting in a hole the first day of school didn’t help. Anyway, should she attempt to explain a B when all other classes are As? Or am overthinking this? No exceptional things to report on the LOCI except starting her senior capstone project (a requirement of her hs).
I think there is no need to explain a B in AP Calc, especially if all of her other grades are As. If it were a C, then maybe, but a B in a very challenging class is perfectly fine, and you don’t want to cast a negative light on something that isn’t in fact a problem.
Thank you! I had a feeling I was overthinking this. She will stick to updating admissions that Bates is still her #1 and an update on the senior capstone which happens to be in line with her intended major.
That sounds like a good idea. And if she can identify concrete reasons why Bates is still her #1 choice, all the better.
