Bathroom remodel !!!

Can someone explain to me what a “soaker tub” is, versus any other kind of tub? I keep hearing this expression on HGTV and I’m clueless.

A soaker tub is usually bigger and deeper to allow you to get water up to your shoulders…allows you to soak and relax! Or, relax with regular tub that is smaller and easier to clean. Bigger is not always better.

The trend that I don’t understand is the free-standing tub. I can’t envision a way to clean behind it that doesn’t involve being flat on the floor with your arm struck into the gap…

I agree and generally feel the same way about vessel sinks.

That will depend on the market where you live. Where we are, people will expect a tub along with that fancy shower in the master. Same with where we have our second home.

Cleaning a soaker tub or behind it isn’t that difficult if you leave a sufficient amount of space. And for the inside of the tub? That’s why you have the hand-held spray.

The fancy electric Japanese toilets will clean your behind for you.

Any suggestions on where to find a powder room mirror? I’ve scoured every site I can think of (lampsplus, simplymirrors, all the department stores, Ballards, all the one-day-sale sites, Horchow, etc.) Can’t find anything appropriately sized for a small powder room that still has some style.

Are you looking for a specific style?

pictureframes.com will custom make a mirror. Determine the size of mirror you would like and then pick a moulding; you can even get beveled glass. They are beautiful and reasonably priced.

Thanks. I’ll check it out.

This one can replace both the mirror and the light fixture (much easier to keep dust-free!):

Around here, i think master bathrooms often get new soaker tubs to replace 1990s jacuzzi tubs (which can get gunk in the jets). We rarely use our jacuzzi tub… undecided about whether to replace it a remodel time. It’s still in good shape.

Re: mirror for a powder room: Just go to a local frame shop. They can make exactly what you want.

We had a carpenter make our custom framed mirror. It was less expensive than ones I priced out at Lowe’s and HD!

Earlier in the thread someone mentioned that not having shower doors might be drafty. We have 3 door less showers and not had this issue. I guess it would depend on how they were built but all 3 of ours are different shapes and none are drafty. I love less cleaning! ;)

I made a custom framed mirror with plywood, the mirror and glass tiles for the hallway bathroom. Will likely do the same for the remodeled master. Our contractor gets mirrors from the same guy who does the frameless shower doors and will cut to size.

You can go to a thrift or antique shop and get a frame, bring it to a glass shop for the mirror.

I looked and looked on line for a mirror for my remodeled bathroom. Nothing was quite right till I went into Target and found a black framed mirror. Perfect, and 1/3 the price of the cheapest stuff online. I wanted simple, not a focal point, so needs may vary.

We’re on day one of our own bathroom remodel. ACK! Noise, dust, people running up and down stairs, no water for hours at a time. I’m not sure I can stand another 3-4 weeks of this!

Hah! Our guys gutted the week before Memorial Day and I was nagging to get through the punch list for Labor Day weekend. My favorite comment from one was “I’m going to Lowe’s; I’ll be back in a few weeks.” But eventually they were like family and I didn’t mind letting them in when I was in my robe, drinking coffee. My tip-- give them a thermos of good coffee and a plate of cookies or whatever. You want to have a good relationship.
