Electric Mirror. We used them in master baths after seeing them in a fancy Fairmont in Vancouver.
Oh thanks for all the info - keep it coming!
I definitely want a shower head that can be hand held, mostly for cleaning and to be able to fill up a bucket etc.
Iād love to see photos of larger format tile, either your own or from Pinterest etc.
We will probably need to have a medicine cabinet over the sink, so I canāt get too fancy with lights and mirrors. There is hardly any storage in the bathroom and I have gotten used to using the current medicine cabinet for my contact stuff, toothpaste etc etc
I had fiberglass finishes installed in previous home and painter told me once that if you have gas heat, it discolors the fiberglass. Certainly true for me, so I would be reluctant to do that.
Iām curious the average cost (average sized bathroom - NOT luxury sized! - middle America folks) of adding heated flooring. If anyone cares to share. And what type of flooring works with or doesnāt work with heated flooring.
There are plenty of urban legends propagated by tradespeople! This is likely one of them. Oxygen is the main culprit here, and temperature and light contribute to the acceleration of the process.
There are lighted medicine cabinets, but consider building your cabinet into the wall to avoid having a dated look.
Here is an example of a lighted cabinet:
I was in terrible need of storage too so we did towers. And you can see the larger format tiles on the floor:
We have the exact same problem with our bathroom. The previous occupants had horrible taste in decor. With our kid being in college, it looks like renovation plans will have to be postponed. All I can say is, choose your contractor wisely. Theyāre not all created equal. Hereās a picture of the carnage we bought
Carnage is relative⦠the last house I lived in (1950ās cape in a typical post war development/cul de sac) Iād have KILLED for a bathroom that looks like yours! The downstairs was in refreshing tones of 1950ās pink, and the upstairs bathroom (powder blue) was carved out of the eaves so a tall person had to crouch to use the tubā¦
Whatās wrong with your bathroom?
For extra storage, we installed a āconcealedā medicine cabinet into the wall adjacent to our vanity. They come in various sizes and colors, and you can insert the art of your choice into the door. It looks like framed artwork on the wall, and has the usual adjustable shelves within.
Also, we chose a skirted toilet for ease of cleaning. Love that feature, as well as the taller height
For starters, the shower floor pebbles were placed so all the water goes away from the drain, so everyday is a squeegee job to keep algae from forming. We did, however paint the āfloor boardsā on the wall white, and it actually opens up the bathroom quite a bit. Admittedly, dĆ©cor is a subjective science, but we find the tiles in the shower stall to be dark and claustrophobic.
If the wall between the shower and the tub can be removed, a glass enclosure in its place will make the shower much less dark.
Also, a free standing tub would make the space look bigger, IMO.
Hang in there. It is only 4 years!
A friend of mine added a second layer of those pebbles (placed strategically along the edges to redirect the water towards the drain). It took him a Sunday afternoon and a couple of trips to Home Depot but it solved their mildew/smelly shower problem!
All of our extended family prefers the chair height (ergo height/comfort height) toilets except me. I find it uncomfortable for my short Corgi legs. In fact, a plumber is coming next week to replace my toilet with one thatās the old standard height and is 2.375" shorter than the one I have now.
Building during the height of the pandemic meant that we often had to take what was available so weāre now making some changes.
This is way off topic.
I went to lunch yesterday with friends. Used the restroom, it was a single room but with two toilets side by side! I did a double take.
Maybe that could be the new trend.
Side by side toilets. One for the tall and one for the shorter guests!
Photo??? LOL, and one wasnāt a bidet or something?
Mommy and me???
I didnāt bring my phone into the bathroom.
Now Iām mad I didnāt think of getting a picture!
