The brand does not matter. DH bought an off-label floor sample in October, 2002, for 90% off at Target. It was listed at $1799 and he got it for $180. This thing is a monster. It comes with 2 tanks and has storage for 2 more It has six burners and a 48" cooking surface - I though we would never need that much, but it has been great to grill lots of fresh veggies.
We use it perhaps 70-80 nights per year. It has many features we could not care less about (infrared zone, rotisserie attachments) but he has found some extremely useful - like the double burners so we can do both boiled corn and chili, or pasta and sauce, etc. at the same time, without heating the whole kitchen in the summer.
The one drawback to me is that it has tiny wheels, so when we move it on the deck they sometimes get stuck in the cracks.
To me, its a bonus when DH grills, because it means I don’t have to cook!
I had a couple of lower priced grills over the years, thought they were ok. Stepped up to Weber about 10 years ago, and I’ll never go back. Mine is still like new, still original parts, though very easy to replace when the time comes. Many are even stocked at Home Depot. Great heat and easy temperature control. Can high sear a steak or slow smoke a pork butt. With normal care, you’ll easily get 20+ years of great performance, probably spending less over time than other grills.
There have been other threads on the topic. On CC threads, there is usually a lot of discussion/variation. But for gas grills, most of us thought that Weber was worth the investment.
Before we got to that decision, we bought 2 cheaper models that were ok and each lasted about 6 years. DH absolutely adores the improved cooking control on our Weber, and it has lasted many 15 (?) years. I think he has replaced the igniter. .
We used to buy a new one every few years (they were mostly low end ones from Sears) until we got our Weber. Have only replaced one part and have had it for many years. My one piece of advice - find somebody who will deliver it assembled.
After many years of cheapo grills, bought a Weber last year. WOW! The quality of the sear that you get on meat is epic, due to the wide flat grill bars. Did some kielbasa just tonight, turned out amazing.
My daughter and her husband inherited our 20 year old Weber when we decided to get a larger Weber to handle the growing size of family get together. It’s still going strong. Our new one is everybit as high quality as our original. As others have said, many replacement parts are available locally but if something you need is not, Weber maintains a 24/7 customer service number and they have an inventory of every part back to the models they sold back in Fred Flinstone’s day. Great company.
Love our Weber but want to upgrade to one with a side burner. Would love to be able to cook pasta or corn
on the side. S will be happy to inherit our current grill.
ok that is genius BB.
I just looked it up on Amazon. This looks like a quick fix to a problem.
I use the grill all year long and exclusively in warm weather. I hate warming the house
up to make anything hot.
Question–is it stable? Where do you use it? I would like to put it on the arm (table thingy–leaf–
that pulls up–I have no idea what that is called). Would a big pot that is heavy with boiling water be safe there?
Guessing weight would make it stable…
We do not have a table that would work but could get a short metal one…thinking, thinking.
Gosh I would love a nice outdoor full kitchen. Funny when you realize that this is a thing from the
past actually.
