I converted from almost exclusively gas to almost exclusively charcoal. Hank Hill is a fictional cartoon. He cannot taste anything. If I want to cook on gas, I can do it cheaper and easier in the house. Outdoor cooking is for coals and smoke.
As for the corn. Boil? on a Grill? Wrap them in foil with some butter or olive oil. Hit them with some Kosher salt and/or garlic. Cook, turn, cook. When you start to get a little caramel color, you are ready to eat.
Grills will last a long time if you take care of them. Cover them. Clean them.
Never owned a Weber. Currently have Charbroil combo gas/charcoal smoker/grill. Long enough for a couple of racks of baby back ribs. Low and slow.
As for NC BBQ. Good for a change of pace. When you are ready to test your skills, make a Texas-style brisket correctly. Good eats. Of course, I like it all.
When I did grill research a few years ago. I also realized that I wanted a Weber due to all the positive reviews, but the price gave me pause. So, I looked for a used Weber. That fit my budget much better and we got a grill that has lasted for several years now.
The thing about Weber grills is you don’t have to spend 800, thousand bucks on them, the lower end Webers work well and the thing is they last (I think my grill was around 400 when I bought it probably over 15 years ago), it wasn’t a high end one (I think I have the genesis silver b), but it has lasted, all I have replaced on it are the flavor bars and the grills (once), Even the two burned ones work fine, and unlike the cheaper grills they don’t rust through and fall apart, and you can replace the igniter and burner tubes and so forth pretty easily if you need to. I don’t even cover my grill, it stays out in all kind of weather, and just keeps humming along shrug.
Helpful thread! I bought a Weber Spirit 3 burner grill today. We’ve been without for a year or so and I really miss grilling. We previously had a Genesis that lasted forever. The Spirit should be perfect for our smaller family now. Can’t wait to head over to the recipe thread and get some new grilling ideas.
You do know we have a dedicated bragging thread on CC, right?
I am very late to this party-never noticed the thread. I am the proud new owner of a petite Weber grill. I’d never grilled a meal in my life before (DH has had the big gas grills and currently owns a Big Green Egg). I’ve been grilling like crazy since I received it on Mother’s Day. So far I’m happy with my Weber, but I did purchase the Grill Grates for them and highly recommend them.
If any of you want to visit my thread and offer recipes or advice, you’d be very welcome.
Expensive (up to 100 bucks–better on black friday) but why waste good meat? Skip the blue tooth stuff
(other models good too but wow on the super fast ones).
It is the best thing forever. Honestly
We give them as wedding presents now to people we know like to cook.
Having the best thermometer makes your meat the best. And tender. And juicy.
