Thanks everyone for such great advice and info! I am not sure what I want to study now. Physics, math, Bio and Chem all of those areas of science interest me and I want to be either an engineer or a physician. Since BC has all types of science programs, my friends are telling me to go to BC, take some science courses with others and then transfer to either BU/ Tufts/ MIT/ Northeastern/ WPI after my freshmen year since all of those schools have both engineering and medical.

Some of them are telling me to hold my spot for 1 year at BU and WPI.
-Do you think it’s a good idea?
-Can I transfer my credits after a year if I hold my spot at those schools?
-Will I get good/better financial aid then? (Right now BC is giving me the most money)
-How easy it will be to transfer from BC to BU/WPI/Tufts/NorthEastern? (If I manage to get mostly As and Bs) Will they reject me as a BC student?

Your story has a lot of discrepancies. Aren’t you already admitted into WPI?. If you are why not attend? It seems as though you have some serious doubts about BC. Go with your gut instinct. If you get a 3.5+ @ any of those institutions in addition to some EC’s transferring shouldn’t be difficult into one of your desired schools.

Dear SRB2006 : Seriously, many folks have offered guidance and you have come back with more and more … and more … questions.

Stop asking about how you can bail on Boston College or any other college after one year. Make it easy on yourself - don’t attend. Period. Go someplace else. Sorry to sound so frustrated but we are talking about a school in the top echelon of schools in the country with only Tufts from your listing in the same class.

Read through the lists of folks just begging for your spot from the wait list. Take a look at the lack of transfer acceptances across the board at many schools. Honestly, anyone with as many questions in their mind about BC should not attend. You need to do some serious soul searching about what you want from the collegiate experience. Spend less time on the message board and more time with your family and guidance counselors.

IVYGRAD2007-- I don’t think I ever said that I am admitted to WPI. What I said was I got accepted to WPI, BC, BU and HC.

Reddune-Thanks for the great advice. I don’t wanna go to WPI because of the social life although they have one of the best science program in the country.

BU- I don’t even want to go there. My cousin went there and he hated it. He went there 2 years ago and transferred to NEU.

HC- I heard the social life at HC is not really that great in fact their workload is soo extreme that I heard students don’t get to socialize at all.

randomgrandeur- That was actually a thread about my friend, not me.

scottj- Good advice, but the problem is that I come from a school where guidance counselors DON’T know anything. NOTHING AT ALL. So, I have to act as my guidance counselor.

Anyway, I think I should just go to BC and then transfer to either Tufts/NEU (since everyone ios saying that it’s easy to transfer as long as I keep 3.50 in my freshmen year)

My daughter graduated last May as a biochem major. She was very satisfied with the pre-med science courses she took at BC and challenged by the 4 semester Honors chemistry program. She took advantage of being so close to Boston by working in a lab at the Harvard school of public health and volunteering at the Boston Medical Center. Her BC background served her well as she is now in her first year in the 8 year MD/PhD program at Yale.

SRB2006, good luck to you. It seems like you have several great options to select from. I don’t think you should go to BC with the intention of transferring. Make your selection based on what school best fits your particular interests. You only have 4 years to take advantage of college life so go where your heart tells you to go.

As for the BC alumni that you talked to, they seem to be out-of-touch with today’s college scene. I wouldn’t base my decision on their comments.
