I miss the days when beverages were sold in glass containers! I brew my own green tea and after it steeps I pour it into quart-sized glass containers and chill it. I saved those containers from some organic grape juice I had purchased a year ago. I use my Yeti and fill it with my green tea when taking a drink in the car. We drink our Starbucks at home or I put it in another to-go mug I use only for coffee when in the car. In restaurants or bars, I use a straw bc the nurse in me does not trust the rim of glasses to be adequately clean. Otherwise, we don’t use straws, especially since we don’t eat out a lot so that saves on money too.
I had to chuckle at one of @dietz199 ‘s posts bc I remember the paper straws with red and green swirls and the metal lunch boxes kids brought to school. Many of us kids walked home for lunch so I didn’t need one. We lived in the city, but we had a big garden in our backyard to save money. My mom canned a lot. We were organic before organic was cool, lol. Going for fast food was a rarity, but Burger Chef and the A&W Restaurant were fun treats. Soda pop was also a treat that we had Saturday evenings with Jiffy Pop Popcorn while watching Night Gallery and Creature Feature.
We walked everywhere bc we only had one car. Everything was walkable - the bank, post office, 3 family-owned grocery stores, bakery, dry cleaner, pharmacy where I bought my comic books, our doctor, two restaurants/one with a bar in it, a bowling alley, park, school and church. For trips to the dentist or our big library, we would ride the bus downtown where there were clothing stores and more restaurants. Simpler times…sigh.
