Beatles Thread - By Popular Demand!

I saw the Beatles in concert in 1964 - what a trip! Still have the $4 ticket stub.

Favorite: Paul
Song: If I Fell
Album: Hard Day’s Night

I was a Beatlemaniac and grownups teased that it wouldn’t last. I wrote down a promise that I would always love the Beatles and I still do to this day!

Well, as I said earlier, I really can’t stand “She’s Leaving Home.” I know the lyrics move some people, but the tune is sheer torture to me.

I have rarely listend to Revolution no. 9 since we played it backwards when I was 12. Not sure it’s a song, more like an experiment.

As for covers…usually I agree, but Rufus Wainwright’s cover of Across the Universe is heavenly. As for the worst…I hated the cover of Til There was You…jeez, how corny can you get? Whose idea was that? But the one that makes me switch stations will always be Octopus’ Garden. What were they thinking?

Michelle my belle
Here comes the sun

For those of you who are fans but have never heard Live at the BBC it is a window on a distant but strangely familiar past. Little bits of interviews, lots of clowning around, some great little vignettes. Singing of old bar tunes. The recordings were not the greatest , I believe monaural, but just the glimpses into their personalities makes it worthwile. I listen to it often. (It’s in my changer on the big-ger bike.;))

Curm: This will make a wonderful present for S for Christmas, although there were almost tears in his eyes when he confided to me that Dylan now does it more for him than his beloved Beatles.

And since he started listening with the plasticity of an eight-year-old mind, he knows the words to every song, even songs I could never make out every single word.

He owns two huge volumes of the complete songs in sheet music so he has a bit of a cheat sheet. He worked on "Day in the Life for two years at around 13 - 15. Some of those arrangements are remarkably hard. Complicated classical pieces were actually easier to master.

Since all recordings make a meal for the I-Pod, that means I get to keep the CD. (Too lazy to put on I-Pod, though it does contain many of my faves. Too old school to totally part with objects.)

Just saw this thread! Love the Beatles–always have, always will! My kids love the music, too! I saw them at Busch Stadium in St. Louis in August of 1966–can’t believe how young I was and my parents let me and two friends go by ourselves! It was awesome!! Saw Paul McCartney in DC a few years ago, and still loved it!!!

Paul has always been my favorite.
Yesterday, Hey Jude, Here Comes the Sun are just some of the songs I love the most!
Hard Day’s Night was my favorite of the movies.
Liked all the albums!!

Favorite Beatle - George
Favorite Songs - Norwegian Woods, Oh Darling, Sexy Body (from Traveling Wils)
Favorite Album - White

Whose biggest time waster these days is watching Dylan and others on youtube? I can’t wait for his movie!

2007 Beatles fest name-that-tune champion :)

Just a few days ago H’s mom gave him some old Kodachrome photos taken by a family friend of the Beatles arrival in Seattle on the '64 tour. Friend worked for the airline and was on the tarmac as the group emerged and walked down the stairs. Really fun shots and there’s nothing like an old Kodachrome to bring back the 60’s. It didn’t look like real life - that’s how you knew it was a photograph!
