Beauty tips!

@SouthJerseyChessMom Thanks. I like to order from Ulta as well. I usually choose free fragrance samplers and save them for stocking stuffers at Xmas.

A word of caution on the IT cosmetic powder- I loved it, but with the slightest of drops, the whole cake disintegrated into a mess. I eventually bought a second one and it happened again. No drops, just jiggling in my purse.

Ok so the Trish McEvoy eyeliner and tubing mascara got a serious trial by fire last night and passed with flying colors!

We were at the Duran Duran concert, and it was four hours of dancing, sweating, and singing at the top of our lungs, and I didn’t look like a raccoon when I got home! I am beyond happy with both the products, and a big thank-you to everyone who recommended them

Here are the links to the two on amazon:

The tubing mascara definitely does some weird stuff as you’re washing it off-it sort of ignored the warm water for a little bit, then suddenly sort of gooed and slid off my lashes.

The eyeliner is still there, lol.

FYI, Amazon Prime is offering 15% off certain makeup purchases with some code… Check your emails.

Re: Trish McEvoy mascara. I don’t see it in black-brown, the color I’ve been buying since 1978. Is Trish trying to tell me it’s okay to wear black?

@Midwest67 it can’t hurt to try it. Well, it can hurt $30 worth  I may get the next eyeliner in a charcoal gray rather than intense black because it is very intense, but the mascara isn’t too intense on me. Brown, unless it’s a taupe-y brown with a cool base, tends to bring out the red in my skin so I stay away from brown eyeliner or mascara.

@MotherOfDragons, So glad you liked the mascara. I’m about at the end of my first tube and have been extremely happy with it. I’m still going to experiment with some other brands, but will definitely buy the Trish McEvoy again. Not only does it stay put, I really like that I can use a white towel to wash my face and not have any mascara stains to contend with.

How do you get samples of these foundations/BB/CC/TMs? I’d like to try the Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue gel that blackeyedsusan recommended. I’ve never worn foundation in my life, but I’ve been dipping my toe into the TM water. I went to Nordstrom and asked for help finding my color in the LM tinted moisturizer. I came home with “Blush.” But I’ve tried it and I am not sure I like it on my face (it looks great on the backs of my hands, though!) I also tried and EltaMD physical sunscreen. I’ve been using EltaMD sunscreens for years. The one I wanted to try was tinted, and I was worried that the tint would be too much. But I read reviews and everyone said that the tint was fine even for very fair skin. So I ordered it (from a store that takes returns) and tried it. The tint was fine, but the stuff is more like a foundation than a sunscreen. It just sits on my skin and shows every pore.

I’m looking for a “your skin but better” solution, but I’d like to know how to get samples so I don’t have to keep trying things. I can return the EltaMD sunscreen, but it’s wasteful. I can’t return the LM tinted moisturizer because I tossed the box.

I found some lip products I really like. This lip treatment is supposed to make your lips look fuller and smoother - and it does!

I’ve never worn lipstick, but I’ve been looking for a slightly tinted product. I tried this in “rosy stain”"

and it’s great, sheer with a slight tint, not too shiny, SPF 15. there are a lot of nice colors.

@NYMomof2 - I ask for samples when I’m shopping at Sephora or Ulta. Especially before purchasing an expensive foundation, I need to wear it for a while and see if I really still like it, if the color changes, if it stays on, etc.

I posted this earlier on this thread, but my “your skin but better” foundation is from Guerlain, Lingerie de Peau. It’s expensive but I’ve re-purchased 3 times now because it looks like my skin but better. It has medium coverage. I purchased it at Sephora, but the Sephora in my D’s city doesn’t carry it so it’s not available in-store at all of them.

My sister claims the ulta near her said they don’t do samples ? The two I frequent are most helpful and give them out. Has anyone ever encountered ulta saying " no samples" ???

Anyone have experience with MAC lipstick.Came highly recommended from a savvy friend.
I bought some Friday, and like it, but need to add layer of gloss so it has that silky feel.

For samples, I stick with Nordstrom or NM.

I don’t know if this has been said yet, but get a beauty blender. Like, before you even log off of CC, get a beauty blender. Not the real techniques beauty sponge either. The beauty blender is the great investment from the most casual make up wearer to the beauty guru.

@SouthJerseyChessMom I’m not a big fan of MAC lipsticks. For the price, I’ve never been particularly moved by them. Elizabeth Arden makes stunning lipsticks. Also, if you’re looking for a unique shade, check out Tom Ford lip products.

@calicash thanks for Mac opinion - I am not wowed seems drying a bit. Thanks for Arden suggestion.
I had to google beauty blender - is it the oval shaped sponge? Don’t they use excess makeup in order to apply vs fingers ?

I used to wear MAC lipstick, “O” for years. I switched to drugstore brands to save $.

When I was younger I wore MAC Studio Fix powder foundation until I got wrinkles!
Not good for mature skin.

Sigh, mine doesn’t do samples and the IT CC cream I bought (fair) is too light on me. The salesgirl helped me check it against my wrist, but my face is darker I guess. Bummer! $40 wasted. I may try to mix it with my drugstore foundation (visible changed).

I also got Laura Geller’s concealer. It seemed to cover better than the IT concealer.

Take the it cc cream back @AllThisIsNewToMe. Ulta will take it back, I’ve seen them do it. No shame.

@AllThisIsNewToMe absolutely take it back to ulta- yours may not do samples, but their policy is accept product back if customer is not pleased. They have been emphatic about this with me. I have friend who returned bb creme to cvs. Mac representative emphasized if I wasn’t happy they accept returns. My mother returned foundation to riteaid.
“I’m new to this”, but learning fast that the policy is to accept mechanize back for Any reason- I think ulta’s policy is less than 25% used.

@AllThisIsNewToMe Which IT concealer did you get? If they won’t take the Fair CC back, PM me. I’ll buy it from you. The Light is too dark for me. Hard to believe the Medium is “normal-most popular”.
