I get so many good reading suggestions from the overall lists. Mary13, once again, great job narrowing the list.

I know I’m not being too helpful by not ranking the books, but really – I’ll read any of them. The only one I know for sure I’d read anyway is the one by Stephen King – so I guess that would be my #1.

Decisions, decisions, decisions. Do I want to spend January time-traveling in the hope of rewriting history? Maybe. Or do I want to spend it curled up with Sherlock Holmes … and not with just one book but two? Hmm - I like the idea of throwing in a classic now and then and the CC Book Club “Garden Duet” was fun. So maybe. But … but … but … we considered The Night Circus last time too - maybe it needs its turn now … plus no one seems to have read it yet. Decisions, decisions, decisions. Drum roll, please.

Either 11/22/63 or The Night Circus or The House of Silk combined with The Hound of the Baskervilles

The Cat’s Table or *The Family Fang/i

Bottom line - I’m fine with whatever. Really. :)

Not interested in 1Q84, have already on my bed table/iPhone , 11/22/63 (finished), the cat’s table & the Sherlock Holmes. Not in any order I’m afraid.

ignatius- enjoyed your “decision-making” process :)

I would be willing to add 11/22/63 to my preferred list. It looks good.

Really, all the books picked for the book club have always been great- I am fine with anything! Of the books just mentioned I think I might be most intereted in The Cat’s Table, Night Circus, or The Family Fang. Happy with whatever though!
I do want to recommend for anyone’s further reading outside of book club-Caleb’s Crossing. I’m halfway through it and it is a wonderful read. I also very much enjoyed The Invisable Bridge. I thought it was one of the best books I have read in recent years.

^^^ PAT – I loved “The Invisible Bridge!” (I got it as a Kindle Daily Deal over a year ago.) Very well done, and about a topic I really knew nothing about.

I really enjoyed “Sleep” but didn’t get to post much with house guest here.

Whether we read it here or not, I will buy the Sherlock Holmes book. I had no idea there was a new book out. Still Alice is another on my list. Anyone read the Jane Austen book?

Most of the people here are incredibly gracious about their willingness to read almost any book that is chosen; that’s really nice.

I regret being so picky, but it’s looking like Night Circus is emerging as a strong contender, especially since two or more people have read 11/22/63, and I’m feeling a little bit unhappy about that.

I’ve read the first few pages of Night Circus on Amazon and the writing style grates on me. It was written by a well educated woman (Smith grad) who was apparently trying for a story that’s a bit in the Harry Potter vein. I don’t believe she had any background as a fiction writer before writing this book.

If that book gets chosen, I’ll sit things out this month and keep my eye open for rejoining the group discussion at a later date.

I would adore discussing Cat’s Table and if it were chosen I would reread it and take notes as I did with the current book. However, it seems like at least a few people are not very much attracted to Cat’s Table.

i agree that night circus is a bit of a tough read at first. there are some really creative areas to be explored–and discussed. liked it and didn’t like it all at once. sometimes that makes for a very interesting read/discusssion.

Actually, although many are open to Night Circus, it is not the front runner. My complex mathematical calculations
indicate that 11/22/63 is #1. I know that Malignon and emeraldkity4 have finished it, but both seemed positive about it and willing to discuss nonetheless…and quite a few others had it in their top three:

11/22/63 is also in my top three—really tied for #1 with the Sherlock Holmes duet (which I hope we’ll revisit in the spring because it sounds like a lot of fun).

Add to the above the easy-to-please PATheaterMom (“Happy with whatever though!”) and SouthJerseyChessMom (“I’ll read whatever the group decides”) and I believe we have a decision.

It appears that everyone would at least be content with 11/22/63, whereas all other choices either didn’t make it to an individual poster’s top three, or were rejected for other reasons.

So are we willing to embark on a Stephen King adventure? Say “aye” and I’ll start a new thread.

A big AYE! Should be fun!

i don’t mind…i’ll read about anything…not sure i will read a stephen king book, though. one of the only books i haven’t finished in the last 5 years or so was a stephen king book. but i’ll jump in and give this one a go!

Aye! (10 char)

Good choice! I look forward to it. I’ll order it today.

Mary: As usual, many thanks for keeping the CC Book Club up and running. I always look forward to the discussions.

Thanks also for the heads up on keeping the Holmes duet on the short list. I give my word of honor not to read either of the two books until further notice. I can manage, as long as I don’t actually have House of Silk here … waiting to be read.

wbow, thanks for being willing to give it a go! It’s not horror, so you might like it. In fact, here’s a quote from King that I plan to put in the new thread, so that people don’t think we’re embarking on Carrie or something:

bookworm, do you mean the P.D. James book, Death Comes to Pemberley? I’m getting it for Christmas!

i like horror. it was a book called lisey’s story or something…just couldn’t get started on it!

Lisey’s Story has 119 one-star (very negative) reader reviews on Amazon!! I’m sure 11/22/63 is hugely better.

Mary13, Stephen King “virgin” here. I’m so relieved to read "…have a chance to get an audience who’s not my ordinary audience. Instead of people who read horror stories, people who read The Help or People of the Book might like this book".

Count me in.
I’m in a 60’s obsession these last two weeks.Just watched Season 1-3 of Mad Men and ready to start season 4.
In fact, just saw the episodes last night when Kennedy was killed.
