It’s definitely a crazy and overwhelming process. I know from first hand experience, let alone with all the kids I am advising. But I do know it all works out and I’ll be happy to welcome you to the “other side” come May. :D

(then, it really is neverending as there is the auditioning for shows process that continues, internships, summer jobs, post graduation casting/jobs, or for some, grad school admissions)

PS…put the basic audition stuff…dance outfit/shoes, audition outfit, music, resume/headshot, etc. in a carry on or dance bag and don’t check that through.

Yes I figured out anything essential was going carry on. They can lose my clothes etc…I don’t count!!! But her stuff is definitely carryon. I’m worried about makeup, etc…this quart size baggy with nothing over 3 oz…going to go check out the airline do and donts

Anyone have anything important confiscated lately??

The last time I took a flight was less than a year ago, and they barely glanced at the stuff I had in my quart sized baggie!
Remember that you can always replace makeup easily at a drug store when you get there. But as you say, leotards, tights, shoes and audition outfits are less easily replaced.
Let’s all hang in there! Remember: this will be over with in a few months and no doubt all of us parents will look back with nostalgia at spending all this time with our kids. Next year at this time, we will have much quieter houses and be missing them like mad.:)

MomOfAPrincess - my D and I have the traveling behind us (she did her auditions in the fall), and we highly recommend “the carry on everything” formula, we are from CA and never checked in anything until the flight back home; even then D carried her audition binder and dance shoes (whatever was not that critical and could be replaced). “My” ziplock turned into D’s second one and we had “travel size” for toothpaste, hairspray, body splash, lotion etc.

I did “splurge” and got myself a big black canvas tote with a zipper instead of a cute handbag, to schlep lots of stuff around in during the day of the audition. Be aware that most airlines enforce the max. 2 bags hand-carry per person rule, and yes, your handbag counts as one piece. D always had her backpack/dance bag and her rollerboard. Also, another heads up, DO NOT carry on a nice large bottle of perfume/eau de toilette unless it fits in the ever getting more famous little baggy or you don’t mind checking your luggage.

I am actually a bit sad that we are done, albeit it for good reason. Enjoy the bonding with your D’s/S’s on your travels, I will be rooting for all of you :)!!!

According to American Airlines you can have a “personal item” in addition to the carry on suitcase that is 36 lineal inches (L+H+W) so I think the tote is a great idea…maybe I can put that cute handbag in there.

RE Post 17: I am not sure if one can check on the application to be considered for the BS in acting at SU Drama, or if it something that one would declare later if they chose, or if they did not pass the sophomore evaluation.

I was BFA musical theatre in 1902 when I was a student there, and it didn’t impact me personally. I know that I had friends who started as BFA musical theatre who choose to switch to BFA acting or BS acting, and friends who choose to be BS acting, but am not sure if that was upon entering SU or a decision that they made at a later date.

A current SU student would be better able to talk about that. It may have also changed since I was there.

I flew with my 2 d’s recently and then #1 D flew quite a bit this fall…everything was inspected, weighed, and counted. We were on several different airlines and in different airports. The 3 oz. limit was strictly enforced including a bottle of Lemon Curd ( 4 oz) in London which my thrifty d and her friend promptly ate at the security stop in order to not have to turn over the whole, unopened bottle.
Be on the safe side and play by the rules. You don’t want them confiscating your good stuff because its a 4 oz. bottle…which is too big even if 1-2 oz. are already used up.
