Belmont U absorbing Watkins college of Art and firing all “non-Christian” faculty

My son is a student at Belmont. It may be Belmonts stance that they hire christian faculty but the environment is open and accepting of all students. When I ask my son what do you think about the fact that students are hesitant to go to Belmont because it is a christian college, he laughs. We are christians and we are liberals. He feels continues to state that college students at Belmont are typical college students. Religions is not forced though you do have to take two bible classes. Belmont is building a great art program and offering to all kind of students. I am sure that not every school is for every student but this line talk could really mislead Watkins student who may be happy a Belmont.

Completely agree. My company has lots of interns from Belmont and I know lots of faculty. Yes, it is a Christian faculty, but the students are very “normal”. It’s more conservative that what you will find on the right and left coasts, but it’s a gorgeous campus and has really gotten a good reputation.

Shrug. Here in the Portland area the Oregon College of Arts and Crafts folded last year. It was similar in size to Watkins. They eventually just ran out of options, closed, and sold the campus to the private prep school that bordered the property. Beautiful property in a very upscale part of Portland. I spend some time there when my kids did summer classes: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_College_of_Art_and_Craft

These expensive stand-alone arts schools just aren’t viable in this day and age I guess.

Is it legal to fire someone based on their religious preference? I thought that this was part of federal anti-discrimination statutes?
