Because it’s beneficial to him with the bad press…where was the oversight before?
As I have mentioned earlier, I have several friends who are tenured faculty at UF. They have been absolutely miserable since he got there and said if they weren’t so close to retirement they’d have actively looked to leave. And many other faculty felt the same. What a shame to see this happen. Hope it can be rectified now.
Ben Sasse is just a terrible person:
And laughing all the way to the bank.
The former U.S. senator from Nebraska had more than tripled his office’s expenditures, which went from $5.6 million to $17.3 million, according to a report by the Independent Alligator student newspaper.
I am sure the citizens of Florida who are being bankrupted by skyrocketing insurance costs, HOA fees and condo assessments are thrilled with this conservative utilization of their tax money.
I found the contents of the article to be just shocking.
Could we instead say that Ben Sasse has had a terrible impact on UF’s finances? Or that it seems unethical or immoral for him to continue to get $1M/year in public funds for another 3-4 years while doing nothing? Or that he should be ashamed of himself as a steward of public funds?
People can make terrible decisions, but I think there should be a super high bar to call someone a terrible person.
Good riddance. The university will recover from his influence. And hoping the tenure changes he made that upset so many wonderful faculty has been rectified.
As someone who has followed him quite closely for many years, and was at one time a strong supporter, I think I will let my assessment stand. I think it’s a fair description of someone who did not feel not bound himself by the standards he publicly espoused for well over a decade.
I apply that same standard to all, without partiality. But if you would prefer the term hypocrite, that’s fair, I just think that also ventures into ‘terrible person’ territory.
Let’s move the conversation forward please
And just when you think he couldn’t get any smarmier….
Sasse claimed that an audit found no wrongdoing in regards to his spending, but it seems no such audit existed.
He is such a disgrace.
Another article on his massive expenditures. This one includes a holiday party with a sushi bar for $900 a person.
Sasse’s spotty CV:
No surprise here.
