benefits of an econ minor

I definitely see that value of an economics minor for an engineering major (I will be earning the econ minor myself…) If you are headed to industry with an engineering degree, an econ minor could possibly open some new doors to you, other than a straight-up engineering role (supply chain, economics, project management, etc.)

I fail to see how an economics major would be so much more helpful if you are looking to start your own company, etc. If you have an idea that could make you some money, you’ll figure out how to make it work, with or without a BA in economics.

I don’t really get how you can say that an econ major would be of so much more value than having the minor and a math-intensive degree like engineering. The econ major just gets an additional six credits of (worthless) econ electives and a statistics class. Engineers will take a statistics class too, and it will probably be a tougher class than the one offered in the econ department…You’ll learn what you need to know when you hit the real world, your college education is just the foundation.

thanks guys. i’m still undecided on this but am leaning towards taking the minor after the positive responses i’ve gotten here.

I recently got admitted into the College of Engineering (woot!!) and I was wondering, would an econ minor be useful for someone majoring in computer science?

Thanks!!

This thread makes it sound good. Others make it sound bad. Who knows? Try flipping a coin.

I would imagine computer science doesn’t have a lot of figuring out what is the cheapest way of doing something (though I base that off of nothing, just a guess), so I don’t think it would be as useful as perhaps the Entrepreneurship minor.
