<p>I just had the sad occasion to book flights for a funeral, and we did receive bereavement rates from American Airlines.</p>
<p>The discount was about $150 off a $750 fare, but an important benefit was that there would be no extra fee in case we changed reservations. So in the convoluted scheme of airline pricing, with a selection of upgrades for which you would normally pay extra to be able to change flights with no fee, the savings was really more like $250-300.</p>
<p>The reservation clerk on the phone was very helpful, and only asked for the name of the deceased, along with the name and address of the church where the service was to be held.</p>
