Because Financial Aid is very individualized, one can’t say for sure how it’ll affect each student. But on average it is reduced. Here is the Financial Aid’s Budget for 2011-2012 ([Facts at a glance - UC Berkeley](<a href=“By the numbers - University of California, Berkeley”>By the numbers - University of California, Berkeley)). Here you can see there is $5000 difference between on-campus and off-campus budgets. This is usually what financial aid bases their offers on, but again it really depends on your own situation. Which is why I strongly recommend students contacting the FA office.

I was basing it on the requests. Most Transfer students will be requesting the apartments. It is likely you’ll get into FH if it is your first request, but lottery numbers do play a part in all preferences.

Junior Transfers are guaranteed housing for their first year, so there is space for everyone, but not everyone will accept their offer. Well most freshmen want to live in the units (no idea why), so if they don’t get that they are disappointed.
