Hi, all - as both a parent of a Class of 2024 Music Major (who applied to 5 schools and had multiple trial lessons at most of them), AND a Music school professor, I can tell you that two things are appreciated:
- Personal courtesy emails to everyone who took the time to work with the prospective student, letting them know that their time and effort were so appreciated, despite the fact that the student will be declining. No, you do not need to say where they were going, but it’s not exactly a state secret.
- PLEASE go to the admissions website and DECLINE the offers, especially if merit/talent offers were made. Everyone seems to wait till the last minute to do this. What that means is that scholarship dollars can’t be reallocated to students who want to go to that school but didn’t get the $ award they needed.
Please, teach your student to be a good citizen and politely decline. After signing good letter of intent, my son wrote about a dozen emails and logged in and declined everywhere else, but he’s the exception, it seems
