Best cell phone plan for a non smart phone

I got my DD an unlocked iPhone 4S for Christmas, with a Straight Talk SIM. $42 per month ($130 every 3 months) for unlimited talk/text/data. I don’t think you can use a Verizon phone, but you can switch over phones from AT&T and T mobile. You can buy a phone through them also. The coverage seems fine- I think they use the AT&T network.

I use an iPhone 4 with Straight Talk and am pleased with service. OP though only wants texting and limited talk at a lesser charge. Straight Talk also uses Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile towers in different areas of country. It takes a little effort to find out which they use in different areas. They use all of them in my home area and if you get the right phone you can ‘select’ which carrier you use primarily. I have an ATT sim for straightalk in my iPhone. It is a little tricky figuring who’s on first with all this cell phone stuff.

I switched to a go-phone plan (kept my old phone). I have it set to recharge automatically with my credit card account once a month. Only once did I come close to using ,my minutes, and received an automatic text letting me know I was reaching my limit. With tax, it is 27.32 a month (or something like that). The unlimited texting is great…

We’ve been holding onto to our “dumb” phones, have 20.00 unlimiting texting for 5 of us and I pay 9.95 a month for Internet access for me and my son from AT&T…something that has gone up a little since, but we are grandfathered in. Sometimes when I look at an IPhone, they salesperson will say, “You will never get that again” which makes me want to keep it. : ) I do like the fun I see some having with their apps, but I have my Kindle which has Internet, enough for now.

I think I’ll probably go with the go phone when it’s time. Seems to give the most for the money. This phone has a few months left on it’s contract so i may deal with it a little bit longer. Is there any kind if phone that can go to Canada or Mexico and not have roaming?
