university of rochester has a really good financial aid program. sure its pricey but they cover you with a majority of grants, and as little loans as possible.
ive a friend who pretty much got a full ride. only has to pay half the dorm fee.

My D got full ride of Washington and Lee. The cost of tuition, room and board, books and etc comes to about 52K. The scholarship is 53K renewable for 4 years with a 2.7 gpa. She thought the gpa requirement was easy.

Also Univ. of Richmond 34,670 yearly-renewable;American University 23k; Dominican of CA 30K; Loyola of NO 17k; Bentley 12k; and others ranging. The best ranked would be Bentley. The results of the top school has yet to come UPenn

I didn’t think UPEnn or any of the Ivies give merit scholarships…only need based.

people confuse need based college grants with merit aid sometimes

Do you recall if there were any other criteria for getting this dough such that even if you had a 2.7 gpa , and u did not satisfy these other , non merit based, criteria, you wd not get the dough?

I guess merit means something you did through your own hard work. If it is something you did not do through hard work, I guess it is not merit, but just a demographic category that you happen to be born into.

Do you know if this scholarship for your friend was solely merit based? Do you know what the criteria were to get it?

a little more info on UR (looks kinda nebulous and non transparent; ya gotta go to a University of Rochester ‘star chamber’ …or a hotel of your choice to see if you’re sufficiently meritorious.)

Interesting. A 3.3 GPA is required to keep 100% of the need-based aid after freshman year. Every 0.1 under 3.3 drops the need-based award by 10%. Too risky for my D to attend despite an otherwise excellent FA package.

Concerning Richmond, they have about 50 full-tuition and full-tuition/room/board scholarships. However, they award more than 50 because the yield is about 60%. In addition, there are about 100 $15,000 presidential scholarships awarded.

az, coos site. It seems to dovetail with that recent disclosure of schools that supposedly are loan free. Here is a link to a related thread…

Marietta College, it’s a really goos school- especially for petroleum engineering, English, and Education.
Ranked higher than Cornell and John Hopkins in after graduation satisfaction

umm ok…i’m an international high school student and i wanted to know whether Virginia offers any sort of financial aid to international students…

^^^

Did you look at UVa’s website?

from the VA website…
Do you offer financial aid to international students? Does this affect my chances of being admitted?

Unfortunately, the University of Virginia does not offer any need-based financial aid to foreign national students.

It looks like int’l students can apply or be considered for UVa’s top scholarship, but that one is very competitive and can’t be counted on.

If you need help financially, you need to either apply to schools that give FA to int’l students, or apply to schools that will give you merit money.

How much can your family pay?

Something in the region of $7000 per year.

One more thing. What about NYU? I’m thinking of applying to Stern but on the website it says that funding for international students is very limited.

Also, can the fact that I have relatives who are U.S. citizens help in eligibility for financial aid awards?

NYU??? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

NYU is the poster child for giving lousy aid. Someone whose family can only pay $7k per year would have a huge gap at NYU.

As for having family in the US…all that would help is with getting loans for college IF they are willing to cosign. There are few people that are willing to co-sign tens of thousands of dollars in loans for relatives.

You’d need to borrow about $40k per year. Any relative that would co-sign for $160k in loans should have his head examined. (not to mention, most wouldn’t even qualify).

Hmmm. Well, so if that’s the case, could you help me out a bit? I’m looking for decent undergrad business programs in colleges which give aid to int’l students (as I’ve said, this is a BIG requirement for me). Are these colleges good?(in terms of aid as well as their courses)
Villanova
Georgetown
Washington
Amherst
Delaware
Williams
I don’t mind doing undergrad in eco, so I’ve included some LACs as well. Could you suggest a few more good colleges?

Washington is the University of Washington in St. Louis.

Have you looked at each schools’ website for aid for int’ls? You need to do that so that you aren’t listing schools that don’t give aid to int’ls.

UDel costs over $36k per year to attend and it does not give aid to int’l students…
Please note that Federal and University financial assistance is available only to U.S. citizens and Permanent Residents.

Since you need a lot of aid, you need to stick with the few schools that give lots of aid to accepted int’ls.

However, keep in mind that just because your family says it can only afford $8k per year, a full need school may say differently. Many families think that they can only afford X dollars only to find out the school expects them to pay 2X or whatever.

Even if you have high stats, I don’t think a school that gives merit scholarships would work since your family can only pay $8k per year. You’d likely have a big gap.

I suggest you go to the int’l forum to get ideas of which schools are the most likely able to help you financially since most schools would not be affordable to you.
