Best Sports Management Programs

Hey guys, just wanted to know which are the best colleges for Ph.D in Sports Management. I understand that UMass, Ohio, Indiana - Bloomington, Uni Florida are the good ones for Masters. Does the rank hold true for doctoral program as well?

Also UMichigan, UT Austin and UI Urbana-Champaign all have Ph.D programs in Sports Management. These Universities are better ranked than the ones mentioned above. But haven’t heard many talking about their sports program though.

Please do throw some light on this issue

Springfield College IS small time and therein lies its benefit. The faculty actually bothers to learn your name. UMASS is great and all, but I’m glad I went someplace where the faculty teaches you rather than one of the graduate assistants. The personal attention at SC is its advantage. If you’re going to pick a big DI school, go to one that actually has decent athletics so that you can get involved there.

redtilldeath, wherever you go for a PhD, get them to pay for it. That’s the big issue these days: getting a graduate assistantship.

So I am trying to decide between Bowling Green and Mizzou and I was just wondering if Mizzou’s sports management is any good because I know that Bowling Green’s is very good. A little insight from someone would be very helpful!

What are the diffrerences between U.Mass, Ohio University and Oregon University Sports management programs? Thank you all!

Anybody know about University of South Carolina Sports and Entertainment program. My son is looking at Ohio, Miami of Ohio and USC’s program looks very good on paper.

We concentrated on Sports Management programs that are thru/with Business schools. My son chose Michigan since he can get a Sports Management degree thru their School of Kinesiology and combine it with a BBA thru the Ross Business School (a highly ranked B-School). This way he can pursue his passion, but also have a strong business degree to fall back on that would apply to any industry.

Im currently awaiting for my decision on my admission at UMass

If I get declined or accepted ill post basically what I had

GPA
GMAT
Work experience
Letter of motivation…

Hey guys, I really need help on deciding which college to go to. Please help me. I narrowed it down to two colleges:

  1. Umass
  2. Suny Cortland
I know when is finically smart and the other is major smart but I have other things that factor in. My girlfriend since 9th grade is going to suny cortland….Idk what to do.

I was just accepted to the MS Sports management at UMASS

overall i have a very low GPA 2.77 but a high GMAT 660

work experience is okay and sports experience well 14 years of judo international tournaments and ive been training with the olympic team

if you have any questions dont hesitate to pm me

Hello, I have got admission in University of Louisville, SNHU, San Jose State Univ. and Florida State Universty for Sports Management program. anybody please help me choosing one university.

Originally got accepted to umass undeclared and not accepted into my major (sports management) but after writing one of the heads of the department an extremely good letter, i got switched in!!!

My son is a junior looking at UMass for sports management. He has a 90 average, 1280 SAT, 29 ACT and has played sports every semester since 7th grade. What do you think his chances of getting into the program are? Thanks! We are looking at Ithaca, Cortland, Brockport, Western New England and possibly East Stroudsburg too.

penguin- I have comparable numbers and I just accepted as a very strong student for Ithaca’s summer program, where I’ll be studying sport management/sport media… so theoretically your son should make Ithaca… don’t go to Cortland there’s a huge rivalry there between them and IC haha. Don’t know how much help this is, I only really know about Ithaca

Well, bloveland, Ithaca is very high on his list… but the money difference is so huge between Ithaca an Cortland! Did they offer a scholarship for your scores? We are going to visit there soon… Cortland had a really nice campus. We also checked Brockport, UMass and U of Western New England. Thanks again!!

Hi Penguin- I don’t come on these boards too much anymore, but I saw your posting. My d graduated from Cortland in 2010 and is now working for a sport/event marketing firm. I think cortland played a big role as it gave her the oppotunity to do a number of different internships, and she was able to use those experience to get her first job working for a minor leage baseball team.
1. i am a firm believer that you need to find a program that has an emphasis in business, so your kid will have a strong business background too.
  2. As cortland is close to syracuse, there is alot of opportunity for internships (see post #60 from Genevive-). You can also re- read my posts (#5-17-40 and 98) as the stuff I said then, still holds true.
U Mass is a great program. I’m sure U Mich (which is combined business program - see post #106) would be a great way to go too. But for my d, both U Mass and U Mich would have been expensive, and she never would have been admitted with her stats to U Mich.
As NYS residents, SUNY cortland made the most sense financially.
She really enjoyed her time at Cortland- it is a very nice and friendly campus. It has become much more popular with our Long Island HS over the past few years. It is also the summer training camp of the NY Jets, so it is interesting to be there in the summer. And they do use a bunch of cortland kids to intern for the jets. They are definitely going to be there this summer, with the hope of renewing the contract for another two years, but nothing is written in stone past the summer of 2012.
Hope I was helpful. (sorry this sound disjointer- but I’m listening to tv as I am typing along)

and blovelND- U ARE CORRECT- BIG RIVALRY BETWEEN ITHACA (oops caps) and cortland. There is the cortiga jug football game every year! Ithaca is also a very solid program, but for most NYS residents, cortland is a heck of alot cheaper. And cost was a factor in our decision. Honestly, I don’t know if my d would have been served any better at ithaca than cortland. They are both solid sport management schools with good reputations.

I am from California but want to go to school OOS…applying to UMass, FSU, USC for sports management. Already accepted at Oklahoma State and Bowling Green…any insight about these programs?

daughter goes to UMass in SM and loves it!

My son is interested in undergrad sports management programs? Does anyone know which schools have the best undergrad SM programs?

Hey all,

I love all the insight this forum has provided…
I have recently been accepted into the Master’s in Sport Management Programs at Florida, Florida State and Miami (Sport Administration). I live near Daytona so there are different pros and cons to each program. Ideally, I would like to work at the collegiate level after school, Division I, as an Athletic Administrator or Athletic Director (easier said than done obviously). Could someone please rank these 3 programs, weighing the pros and cons of each including internships, job placement, tuition price, ect… Thanks!
