If the yen is still as cheap as it is now, Japan would be a wonderful choice. We lived there for a long time, but we traveled a lot domestically before the kids arrived, and it is an endlessly fascinating country. Apres kids, our favorite vacations were probably Hawaii (Big Island,especially, Mauna Lani Hotel especially); Australia (our daughter was obsessed with kangaroos when she was small, so we went to see them - Sydney to Port Douglas ); Four Seasons Hotel in Langkawi, Malaysia and Singapore combined trip (worth it for the breakfast buffets alone); ten-day trip to Italy including Florence, Rome and Naples/Pompei; and a two-week trip around Southern France that eventually led to our moving here (Nice to Avignon, Bonnieux, Marseille). Within the US, New Orleans lived up to my bucket-list expectations. And always, New York City.
