Best/Worst Admission/Rejection Letters

Notre Dame’s was… amazing. But that may only be because I built it up so much… Anyway, as was stated above, it had “Welcome Home” written on it, which nearly made me shed a tear, except for the fact that I was too busy running around yelling “HELL YEA!”

Duke has the nicest rejection letter and Rice has the worst.

Hey would someone mind posting the Rice rejection letter? I have heard so much bad stuff about it that I am now curious…

Everyone keeps saying that Brown’s rejection letter is nice…I’m almost looking forward to my nice Brown rejection. :)

Btw, was the envelope brown? Ahahaha…

i hope brown mails out their decisions through ups…

Haha, “what can Brown do for you?”

You know what’d be interesting? It’d be more honesty and down-to-earthness from the colleges.

Instead of sending big packages and such, they should be more direct. They should send lots of postcards titled ‘ADMIT’, ‘REJECT’, and ‘DEFERRED’ along with their school logo, and that should be abut it. Or, for deferrals, they could be more detailed and go ‘LIKELY’ and ‘REACH’.

It strikes me funny how there is a common application, but not a common result. That would be interesting if you could get a letter in the mail that goes something like the stuff in chances:

Harvard - REJECT
Yale - REJECT
Princeton - REJECT
MIT - REJECT
CalTech - REJECT
CalState SUNY - ACCEPT

Weak ECs, weak grades, but acceptable scores. Please try again next life.

Awww but that takes away the fun drama of it.

/agrees with catsushi

Looking back, is it just me, or did the class of 2011 totally skip this thread? :D

And did you know that Brown sends acceptance letters in “brown paper packages tied up with string”? ;)

I’m sure the adcoms at Brown are sick of “what can Brown do for me?” essays.

:) they probably are but man, it’s a hard opportunity to pass up.

My first acceptance was the best cause I got a scholarship and I got into the Honors program (and because it was my only acceptance). I kinda like Harvard’s rejection letter, since I was expecting it anyway. They really worded it well, so it didn’t make you feel bad. I can’t really remember any of the (9) others. (I’m part of the class of 2011 :))

lol, the funny thing is, some of these posts make me want to apply to more colleges just to get more acceptance or rejection letters. Meanwhile, I’m absolutely DYING inside waiting for Brown T_T

Kalamazoo College has the most impressive acceptance letter. The letter contains excerpts from the applicant’s essay and has that personal touch as to why they want you to attend. S regretted turning them down based on the letter.

Lafayette does the same thing - it’s very personal, as they reference things about you from your essay in your acceptance letter.

Bunsenburner said: “I’m sure the adcoms at Brown are sick of “what can Brown do for me?” essays.”

My dad thought he was ever so clever when he stated that I should write in my essay “what can Brown do for me?”, to which my mom and I replied that they probably have a separate garbage can for those essays.

Yeah, this is a pretty old post, but I liked going back and reading all the stories. :D

is anybody else but me going to wait for the mail to come and not check e-mails for schools you’re really hoping for? if i’m going to be denied, i don’t want to be sitting on my computer in my basement when it happens. and, if i get accepted, i want to be standing in the front lawn screaming when i see the size of the package.

just my two cents though  i love the mail to begin with, so the two combined seems to good to spoil with the impersonality of the internet.

Yeah I understand what you mean…but I still have a month, so I think I’m safe with the email. (GAH, A MONTH!)

oh trust me, catsushi, i feel you. i still have a little over a month for the school i’m really counting on. i sympathize :)

december 15th is such a defining day.

hahaha, this post topic is great… it definitely lightens up my day. I don’t even really care about getting in to colleges anymore (I’m all about the financial aid).

My first acceptances this year: Michigan State University and University of Wisconsin-Madison. They were both generic acceptance letters, but they made me feel smart (whereas the rest of my letters will make me feel depressed and worthless). U Wisc. had a folder where they said You’re WisconsIN! It was corny but it was nice to feel wanted by colleges
