So if you’re expecting to apply for engineering like I did be ready for a flurry of rejection letters here are some of mine:

Cal Poly’s rejection was brutal, just a little sentence online saying “You have not been selected for admission to Cal Poly”

UIUC ( University of Illinois… too damn long of a name) online one was even worse it was just a stark phrase, “deny-reviewed” and when I got the denial letter in the mail a week later I did not even open it. I just ripped up the envelope and lit the little scraps of paper on fire one by one (bad idea because the fumes of burning ink smell bad).

UC Davis (which I just got about an hour ago) just gave me the usual online “we regret to inform you that…blah blah blah…but we cannot accept you…blah blah blah… we had a large applicant pool this year and it was very difficult deciding on x amount of admits…blah blah blah…and we wish you the best of luck on your future academic endeavors, sincerely Dean of Admissions”
and then there was a link to a UC sponsored coping with rejection website.

But for the good news:

University of Iowa sent me a big envelope with the words “Its great to be a Hawkeye”

and UC Santa Barbara verbally accepted me at this invite only presentation in San Jose

^^ Did you get an email a day later that was an “official” rejection letter? I don’t think they are even mailing them, just sending them by email

cal poly did not even email me and i have yet to receive a hard copy rejection letter. Well their lack of balls to communicate their rejections to heartbroken students has led to question why i even considered them in the first place. But hey you cant win them all anyways unless you are a poor starving under represented minority student with a 2400 on the SAT and a 4.6 GPA and play 3 varsity sports

The TCNJ letter was just your average acceptance letter, but then there was a paragraph saying something like “we are still considering you for our seven year optometry program”. I was extremely confused by this, as I did not apply for the optometry program, am not interested in the optometry program, and the previous paragraph had actually said “you have been accepted as an international studies major”. I got an email three days later apologizing. Apparently they accidentally copied the paragraph about the optometry program onto every single letter they sent out.

if I were an admissions officer / college I’d include the acceptance letter in a normal envelope with “…small packages” printed on the front. “Good things come in…” on the inside. Included is the good news letter with a note saying the big package is on it’s way soon (with decals, etc.). Postage not an issue.

They would probably still understand it’s a good thing, but it’s a little funny.

University at Buffalo: Accepted, big envelope so no suprises. A nice letter, nothing fancy really, but a well worded response. Appreciated.

St. John Fisher College: Accepted, big envelope - again not a suprise. Nice folder with a bunch of letters (I haven’t read them all yet). Included was a cool flag and the card from my rep., who sent me a card wishing me a Happy Birthday. Nice touch. Won’t go forgotten.

SUNY Oswego: Accepted, regular envelope but very thick. My first “yes” so it was cool in that regard, lots of info about housing and the program. Someone from the college called me, I’m not sure who (I didn’t answer the phone, mom did) but asked if I had questions, informed me about an upcoming open house.

Basically, I’ve come to understand that the bigger the institution the less personal things get - unless it’s an elite school.

Still waiting on Massachusetts. I’ve heard different things from past acceptees, anyone care to share what comes for Fall '09ers?

Temple’s is great…It’s a big thing with CONGRATULATIONS on the front.

Le Moyne’s was regular…But then about a week later, a free string backpack came along with a Le Moyne dry erase board and window sticker. That was nice.

I haven’t gotten any rejections yet…But I’ll let you know about them when I do.

Bard was really classy and it actually really scared me because the acceptances come in a very tiny regular sized envelope, and it’s like tiny red folder outlined in gold with the univeristy crest and congatulations on the front.

Howard had a huge package with a gaint gold sticker on the front.

Fordham was a giant folder pretty average

NYU was a huge package I think my personal fave in the shcool colors (purple my fav color)
