Buffalo’s wait list letter is awful…It talks about how they’re impressed with you and being put on the wait list has nothing to do with your stats just the number of applicants…and how they’ll try to make admission offers as soon as they can and if they can’t offer you admission for fall 2009 they might be able to for spring 2011! I’m pretty sure that last part is a mistake…at least I hope it is!

pshh ya me too I’ve got like 4 coming. It should be optional to get the paper letter since I’ve found out online. I wish there was a button I could click saying I’d rather she a tree than get this reject letter…

I think Yale said the same thing in my deferral letter…

On my Williams early write, the dean of admissions said I did impressive work at NIH, which really made my year-long mice caretaking ordeal seem good. Plus I felt awesome that the dean took the time out to write that (he didn’t write anything on my bff’s early write). The whole letter was very specialized and listed all my EC’s, both of the majors I put down, and more. It was just really awesome.

Oxford (England) had a pretty nasty rejection letter. It might have just been specific to my college (Pembroke), or maybe because I read it in a harsh British accent in my head (think the original chick from “The Weakest Link”), but it still stung.

Agree with a much earlier post that CMU has a really nice acceptance packet. Talk about FAT. It was a spiral bound book with many extras. We almost threw out the Hampshire acceptance (a postcard thing, folded in thirds) b/c it looked like another piece of marketing. Then the letter and scholarship stuff came in a regular envelope. D #2 found out about Mt Holyoke this weekend - she said it was scary - the website said “your admission decision is ready” or close to that - and “click here”. She said making the click was nervewracking…but she got in!

ninnynoddle, I’m 46 and I STILL remember a nasty reject from Tufts (although I then got into Yale–it was unpredictable then too). Anyway, Tufts basically said the same thing–how very disappointed I must be that I didn’t get into Tufts. It made me SO angry; I wanted to write them back and tell them that I wasn’t disappointed at all now that I got this arrogant letter…ANyway, that was a lo-o-ong time ago, and I still sort of get a pang when I remember it, even though I ended up going to Yale! I wish some colleges were more careful with their rejection letters…

RPI was pretty sick. found out online first an when i logged in a loud victory march came on, very appropriate
then they sent 2 packets and 1 package.
:an acceptance letter, a vvvery nice financial aid package, and a free hat and bumper sticker

kenyons was great
the letter referred to specific aspects of my application that they liked and at the end the signature was hand written wiht a little congratulatory note
they also sent a bumper sticker which was awesome

washu’s waitlist was pretty callous, the way they said they were offering me a place on their list, and that they’ll se how things go and they might not be able to give me aid. by the end of the letter i was asking myself, why would i want to go to you now?

That IS a nasty letter from Dartmouth. Talk about grinding the ax right in. I’ll bet you aren’t interested in going there now, anyhow…Some of these letters would make you want to write back and say, “well, no, actually I am NOT interested in your XYZ school now”. There are ways to be tactful and much less hurtful.

I didn’t like MIT rejection letter, I used to think they were the most applicant friendly university. . . Not anymore, I guess. . . Its saddens me though.

I am writing to let you know that after careful consideration it has not been possible to offer you a place at Pembroke College to read Chemistry, and I am sorry to have to inform you that your application is no longer under consideration by any of the other colleges at Oxford.

In January, the college will be writing directly to your school or referee as appropriate about your application, unless you have indicated that you do not wish a request to be sent. I am sure that your teachers will be ready to discuss with you any comments with make, if you wish.

I do realise how disappointing this will be, and I sorry not to have better news about your application here. As you know, competition for places at Oxford is extremely strong. I hope, however, that you will be successful in gaining admission to one of the other Universities to which you have applied."
