Best/Worst Admission/Rejection Letters

yeahh i thought upenn’s rejection was so cold and direct. i was really put off by the length. it was literally 5 sentences long. you would think that they would put some effort into consoling us over all the time we put into their app. but i guess not.

Worst rejection letter (so far) is from Tufts. They sent me a form letter saying that generally all applicants are basically qualified to attend Tufts, they can only admit so many students and they hoped that I can understand. Oh, and they thanked me for my interest.

Best rejection letter was from University of the Pacific. At least they had the ■■■■■■■ to inform me that I was rejected because my GPA in courses related to my selected major was too low.

Best acceptance letter so far is from Suffolk. I dunno, they sent me a window decal, a fridge magnet, and a nice magazine.

Uh…MIT told me straight-up to not apply, but they would be happy to have me apply as a grad student (when the time comes).

It was funny, because I got my rejection letters from Princeton and Harvard at the same time. Harvard was like, “we’re SO sorry we can’t admit you, but we know you’re qualified and you’ll do well wherever you end up. Good luck!”

Princeton’s basically said “you suck. no appealing your decision.” Haha

To be honest, by the time both came, I had already gotten into my top choice (Carleton) so I didn’t really care that much. Carleton had a really nice folder, blue embossed with gold, and a really nice acceptance letter. Other than Carleton, the best admissions package I’ve ever gotten has to be from Vanderbilt…their folder is really cool! It looks like a giant window into the campus that you open up.

Can someone please post the UPenn rejection letter? I have read it’s one of the worst, but I can’t seem to find it anywhere.

I felt compelled to post the following:

I’m not sure if that has already been posted, but I found it to be humorous. There are a couple of other responses in addition to that one on the following website:

Wartsandall…GREAT post! I got a chuckle out of all of these. Thanks for the laugh.

I must say that Claremont McKenna sends a pretty mean rejection letter. I didn’t exactly pin it up on the wall, so I don’t remember what it said verbatim, but it opened with something along the lines of

“We reviewed your application carefully and have decided not to offer you admission to the class of 2014.”

I remember when I first got the letter, I didn’t even care about the rejection, I just lol’d at the bluntness. It came off to me as pretty much, “We got a really good idea of who you are, and no, we just didn’t like it.”

^ Ouch.

Wartsandall, I love that letter!

Speaking of what comes in acceptance packages:

I applied twice to Taliban University (located in backwoods Afghanistan).

In the first cycle – in which I was rejected – they sent me a small brown envelope, filled to the brim with anthrax. Fortunately, I survived to re-apply in the next cycle. Yesterday I received my acceptance package. Interestingly enough, it contains no letter of acknowledgement; inside the package is only a suicide vest and detonator’s manual.

ASU just sent me two more rejection e-mails for their M.S. Statistics program out of the blue. Apparently, rejecting me once back in Spring wasn’t enough for them.

Oh, and the subject of those two e-mails was “ASU Deny Letter.” LOL.

The Harvard acceptance letter was pretty awesome. They included a special certificate, and I had a personal note from the regional admissions officer (a pretty famous guy in his own right).

urggh cant wait til i’m actually accepted somewhere
being a senior SUCKS

@ Banjo

dayumm you’re at harvard. i’d love to get one of those letters loll

@Wartsandall: I love it!

Northwestern’s acceptance/rejection letters have hardly been mentioned. I just mailed out my application today. Can’t wait.

i love how this thread is still alive LOL. anyway, hopefully i shall get a nice fuzzy acceptance letter from cornell

I heard Stanford’s rejection letter is actually very nice. Makes me glad I chose to apply there early, since they even make an effort to make the worst case scenario not as emotionally damaging lol.

Georgetown acceptance letter is awful, it does not even say congratulations. And I never even received an acceptance letter (or an acceptance packet) in the mail. Only email.

The worst rejection letter I read online was from Bard College. It said you are rejected, but if you find you are able to identify “additional financial resources” to pay for college, then we will reconsider you. (At least they were honest).

I hope this year’s EDers will post their rejection/acceptance/waitlist letters on here. This thread is so amazing and it dates back to 2005! :D
