BFA transfer seeks ‘preppy’ school in dry climate

they don’t actually get NEARLY so much quantity of snow as Buffalo (FWIW); I mean it snows, but not really all that bad. My New England kid was expecting far far worse.

It is, however, very, very grey and not a lot of sun - not at all good for people with SAD. (This IS worse than where we are from in New England… I looked it up, statistically, far worse).

There are, however, NO historic buildings at RIT; the entire campus was built in the very late 60s.….Not sure about mold, but nothing is from 1890 or even 1940. Very little Greek culture and not much drinking either…

Agree it is a good suggestion program-wise… has a big arts program! Furniture design, glass, too. Photography is big etc.

I wouldn’t call it preppy though.. Very quirky, geeky.. though certainly kids of all types.

University of North Texas BFA/MFA might be of interest:

University of New Mexico doesn’t have jewelry making major, but it does offer small metals/jewelry making courses under it BFA sculpture program.

And it has an open access jewelry and ceramics studio for students.

Albuquerque has a dry climate sun and winter. It can be dusty in the spring and fall during “windy season”. But mold is not a major problem.

UNM is in the process of completing a brand new Fine Arts Building on campus, which is expected to open in December 2026.

ETA: I wouldn’t call UNM “preppy”. More like laid back. People can do their own thing. However, the Greek system is not big part of campus culture.
