Biology 2010 Prep

i want it to be juullllllllllyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. :)

quick question…
are transposons only found in DNA?

^ A transposon IS a sequence of DNA.

so I was reading about ap biology ppl on past year threads and some said they got their mailed scores before july 1st or at least they were able to call for their scores by the 20-something of june. But then the ap pack said scores are only available starting july. anyone know how that works??

^I think it depends on where you live. I know people from different parts of the country who got their scores a couple weeks before my region got scores back.

I think the scores may be ready before July 1st, but they publish that date in the student pack to be safe and 100% sure that all of the scores are in fact available by then. I mean, wouldn’t you be mad if you called on July 1st to find out that your score isn’t available due to a delay? ;)

almost july!!! good luck everybody

This is sorta not the place b/c I am studying for Bio subject test but I presume this topic over laps so I will ask it.

Can somebody explain the difference between bottleneck effect and founders’?

@DanccinggBear: They are both two flavors of how HW equilibrium can be thrown off by an increase in genetic drift. Both events result in smaller populations (so more genetic drift). Founder’s effect implies that a subset of a population has migrated to a new area and established a new population separate from the first…hence the name “founder.” Bottleneck implies that an existing population went through some event that removed most of the population (and really had nothing to do with selection). Something like a flood wiping out 99% of a population, leaving a small fraction of the original behind.

Both result in “new” populations with allele frequencies that may be different from the original allele frequencies.

@Ja Ahh thanks for the explanation. Barrons is just so vague when covering it but you did a really good job, thanks!

Haha, thanks. I teach AP Bio.

since last years curve was extremely generous at 85 points for a 5. how generous do you think this years would be since it was easier??

Curve will be much harsher, and I did far worse on this test than I did on the old ones.
Fffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu.

^ahaha yeaaaa. same here. hope the curve’s still under 90 =</p>

@wanton: hahaha sorry man, it was hard for me too, im not saying it was easier in my opinion, but harsher as in lower or higher??
also yea i hope it stays under 90 too!

^ Harsher generally means that a higher score is needed.

WOOHOO 5! with 14 skipped on multiple choice and screwing up on at least 1 section of each of the fr :). dang the curve must have been really lenient.
hope everyone else on here did well too!!!

already got ur results??!!! did you call for your scores?

^nope! found the result in the mailbox this afternoon. i live in california btw so the letters arrive earliest in the west coast i guess.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Im in AZ so i shouullld be getting it soon, too right? :DDDD hopefully… I remember in the past years they always came toward the end of july…
