Birthday Care Package Ideas needed - tried and true home baked goods

BUMP - keep the ideas coming!!!

I send peaches – really firm ones – FedEx ground – cafeterias tend to get in a rut with the fruit they offer, often apples/pears (hard)/melon/oranges, but rarely stone fruits like peaches and plums, or any kind of apple other than red delicious.

Reports are that the scent of fresh peaches in the room draws in lots of friends. :)

Do you have a problem with sending to P.O. boxes at college? I was trying to send D something from Target but they won’t deliver to a po box. (Of course, it’s really a mailroom that would just hold the package for her but…)

For my kids, their addresses were their room numbers and the dorm, so no box number was involved. My son is a freshman and I needed to send him something and I did not ask how to address it.

Could you send it to dorm room number, dorm name, and then put the box underneath as if it is an apartment?

My daughter has since moved to an apartment building and has trouble getting UPS packages, so I put her apartment number as if it were a box number. We will see whether it works; my hope is that it will trick Amazon into sending it USPS because you cannot request that method.

I sent DS the birthday package from Divine Delights and he was really happy. Thanks to whoever mentioned them.

Love, love, love Divine Delights. I ordered mine today.

Insomnia Cookies delivers warm & wonderful cookies in a variety of flavors. Their website lists their locations. (NYC, New Haven, Philly, Ithaca, Syracuse, Michigan, Ohio and others I did not recognize.) We had the cookies a couple of weeks ago when up in Ithaca and they were great. They also sell a cookie cake, but I haven’t sampled that.

Thanks MDmom-- I think that’s what I will do-- just list the box number as if it were an apt. number and hope for the best. (Now to check out Divine Delights!)

CT1417 - I walked past Insomnia Cookies one morning during a visit to the UWS in Manhattan. The sign piqued my interest and I took a picture of it! I can’t wait to check out their menu.

Ask at your local PO about what’s a better deal - the flat rate boxes or regular priority mail. I found out that even though my son is seven hours away, he’s in the same zone as us and unless we’re mailing something extremely heavy, priority is the way to go.

I usually stick a piece of bread in with my cookies to keep them fresh. My boys aren’t big on sharing their homemade cookies, but if I send more then a dozen they go stale within a couple of days if they’re in a tin. The bread seems to keep oatmeal raisin cookies especially good, just like it works in brown sugar.

lilmom–they were excellent! (Well, excellent if you like warm, buttery chocolate chunk cookies!) We bought a dozen and brought many of them home with us. They were still fresh four or five days after purchase, even though we never bothered to take them out of the wax bags inside the cardboard box. I was happy to see that they are in NYC as it is always helpful to have a destination when I drag my boys trekking around Manhattan. Glad they weren’t on the UWS when I lived there as that would have been dangerous!
