Birthright trip help needed

Just hope they decide to come back! My D came home and is already planning the next trip to Israel on her own and possibly living over there…Ya think they have a good idea with this Birthright thing? Duh!

My son is going in May. Does anyone know when he should get his itinerary? He is hoping to see some relatives in Jerusalem. He is very excited about the trip.

candace-Which trip organizer is your son going through? My kids are going with Israel Experts the end of May and while they have received their flight information, they only have the sample itinerary. I believe they will get their actual itinerary and list of students on their bus a few weeks before departure.

thanks Pokey, I don’t know the name of the trip organizer. I just know he signed up with Hillel on campus.

Just reading the posts about birthright. Our son is going in June. He is 25, and we are very excited for him. If there are any suggestions on anything special that he should bring I would appreciate hearing! Thanks.

lots of sunscreen and some hats.

comfortable clothes and shoes

Since I am in Israel and will be here through part of June, just right around all the birthright trips are coming in… I can offer a bit.

1) Temperatures will vary very widely since you’ll be going up North and down to Dead Sea. Definitely bring a sweatshirt but nothing else- don’t need a jacket or anything. Your kid can survive with one item like this- sweatshirts are very cheap here ($10 on a bargaining deal). So layer!

2) Comfortable shoes are a MUST, especially if you have arch/foot problems. I had one girl on my trip who wore her Crocs everywhere- even on hikes.

3) For girls- bring “going out” clothes as there will be several parties at night.

4) HATS. Bring it or the guide will force your child to buy one.

5) NO short skirts like minis- it’s not worth packing them in.

6) Bring lots of memory on the digital camera :)

7) Be extremely efficient when it comes to packing since the kids basically live out of their suitcase for half the trip and it’s a big pain having to lug that big bag up and down the stairs- that’s right, the hotels outside of Jerusalem and Tel Aviv that they will be at have NO ELEVATORS. (For most part anyway)

8) Be sure that your son brings his kippah for the Kotel and Shabbat services.

If you have any questions or concerns or just need some reassurance that all is well here, feel free to PM me :)
