Blepharoplasty?

Understood. I didn’t have an anesthesiologist since it was done with a local and didn’t use a surgi-center since the doctor owned the practice and had a surgical suite in the building. In my area this is typical. The whole thing took about an hour. The swelling was scary but other than that I was walking around and feeling basically fine. A friend drove me home to a waiting ice pack. Recovery was a snap except for bruises. In any case, they will probably be able to answer a question like that very quickly by phone.

I had a consult on blepharoplasty with a very well-known facial surgeon in SF, all the doctors and doctors’ wives go to him. Celebrities fly in from all over the world to have him do the operation. He only does it in the hospital, so there would be an OR fee plus the anesthesiologist’s fee.And he tells people his fees are higher than average.
He was recommended to me by my plastic surgeon friend who trained with him.

Usually, the additional costs (if there are any) are built in to the price quoted, but you can always ask. I can’t tell is cbreeze asked or is assuming. And, yes, its true that a celebrity doctor will charge a higher fee than average because that type of clientele is not price shopping and frequently thinks the more you pay the better the quality. It’s not necessarily true, of course. There is also the bargain rate for the other end of the market. The average is somewhere in the middle and varies by region, obviously. NYC is more expensive than Cleveland.

Surgeon here.
There are 3 ways to deal with fees in a cosmetic procedure. There is always the surgeon’s fee. As I said before, the surgery can take place in an office, a surgery center, or a hospital.
1. If it’s done in the office, there is the surgeon fee plus they may charge a facility (procedure room) fee. They might quote you 2 prices or 1 all inclusive price.
 2. If it’s done in the surgery center or hospital, then there is the surgeon’s fee, the anesthesiologist’s fee, and the OR (facility) fee. You may pay each of the 3 separate. Alternately, you may be quoted 1 price by the surgeon and pay the whole thing to the surgeon then the surgeon will take a portion and pay the anesthesiologist and the OR.

Those NC prices are inexpensive compared with Los Angeles prices.

Thank-you!

Just to answer some of the questions: they apparently do it in the office. If the procedure is purely cosmetic, and not covered by insurance, the cost is $3,300. If insurance is involved, they accept whatever the patient’s insurance pays. Including Medicaid and Medicare.

My insurance company approved the procedure for me. (Apparently my lids are blocking about 30% of my vision unless I hold them up by raising my eyebrows.) Unfortunately there is a long wait: I’m booked for late July. I can hope for an earlier cancellation, though.

Consolation, that’s exciting. Where or by whom are you having it done?

It’s the same eye practice where I have my ophthalmologist and optometrist, in Portland.

Good luck. Remember to bring a pair of sunglasses with you. I will say that it does take 6 months for you eyes to look natural again.

I have to inquire about this. I hope I remember the next time I see my eye doc…in June.

I hope that this comes out ok…because I had an eye lift on Monday and I can’t use my contact and glasses aren’t great. II am fortunate in that it doesn’t hurt. Itches a bit. I also had a botoxshot.

That was only two days ago! I was swollen and had blurry vision for a few weeks. But, it all turned out just fine.

Thank you! actingmt! One lid began swelling again. Since I see out of one eye (and was the reason for the surgery as well) Mr. Ellebud took some pictures and sent them to the surgeon…just in case. I don’t have pain, just a little itch occasionally…Full disclosure “” I also had a face lift as well. No pain, no problems.

And a shout out (for us moms) my kids and their so and Mr. Ellebud have been amazing. I just ate my breakfast prepared by my youngest: fresh berries and yogurt. Thank you to my family!

Just wanted to update this thread. I had an upper and lower Blepharoplasty about 6 weeks ago. I am thrilled with the results. I did have extensive bruising and swelling under my eyes (it even trailed down to my chin). This was totally expected as I bruise very easy. I was out of work about a week. I was very self-conscious when I went back to work (because I couldn’t cover up all the bruising) but most people there knew I was having the surgery anyway. It was about 3 weeks before all the bruising and swelling was gone. Other than that, the surgery was relatively pain free, except you do need to sleep at a somewhat vertical angle for a few nights (I slept in a recliner the first night and then used a wedge pillow on my bed for a few weeks).

I had an oculoplastic surgeon do mine. I was home within 3 hours. He does hundreds of these a year and came highly recommended. I brought him pictures from my 20s (my eyelids had already started drooping significantly in my 30s - it’s genetic) and he was able to restore my upper lids to that point in my life. I love being able to now wear eyeshadow and actually see it on my lids. I just look much more ‘awake’.

The lower lids look pretty good. I have what is called ‘malar bags’ or ‘festoons’ which is a swelling on the upper cheek. They are still there. Lots of people mistake them for under eye bags. They’re not and can’t be removed with eyelid surgery (I’ve read that they are sometimes ‘fixed’ with a facelift or aggressive laser treatment). At any rate, my lower eyelid area looks much, much better. The surgery costs me around $3,500 in total. Worth every penny in my opinion.

MomLive, thanks for the update. What part of the country do you live in? Just wondering if the $3,500 would be comparable for my neck of the woods.

You will look even better 4-5 months from now.

That’s a really good price. Around here, I know lots of people spend more than $4K just for botox and fillers every year.

I’m in SC. Unfortunately, it does seem to vary by city.

I had mine about 6 weeks ago. I had a facelift as well. (not a brow lift). I do look better. I wasn’t painful at all. I used vicodine day of…and the next morning Mr. Ellebud said to take another. I had one does of tylenol. And then nothing.

I am scheduled to have mine on Friday. There’s an annual neighborhood party on Sunday…I guess I’ll be missing it. :frowning:
