Board or card games for three?

Three of our family favorites that haven’t been mentioned are Fluxx (card game), Racko and Milles Bornes.

Bohnanza plays well with 3 people.

Rummikub, Mexican Train Dominoes and Uno are all fun games for 3 people.

We can play mille bornes til the cows come home. Or til we run out of gas.

Haven’t played Mille Bornes for a mille years. But need to drag it out–everybody loved that one.

I added Mille borne and Sushi go to my amazon wish list  I would have added quiddler, but my family will not play word games, trivia games, or drawing games with me. The mathy games all get heavy play here, which is fine (even though I suck at them, lol).

thanks to the OP for making this thread!

Phase 10–it’s a Rummy-type card game. Two or three can play–four is optimum.

Another vote for Dominion and Bananagrams. We keep our “banana” in the car at all times; you never know when you’ll want to play at a coffee shop!

We are a threesome for games, too. We are obsessed with a game called “It Was a Dark and Stormy Night”. It is for book lovers. We also have this wonky little card game called Elixer that we have had tons of fun with.

love to play games, but only have 1 family member interested. We play lots of card games mentioned here, and for a quick fun cute game for a group we got "five seconds rule. " DO NOT play “crimes against humanity” though. I did with a bunch of incoming college freshmen over the weekend. I was just shaking my head.

Bananagrams can be played solo or for 2 or more folks. It can be competitive or collaborative. I prefer playing collaboratively with S and having a rule that the words used are COMMON ones in the newspaper–not special scrabble words that are rarely in common usage and none of us know the definition.

I like Bananagrams, but no one in my family will play with me. I’m too fast.

@bgbg4us I think you mean “Cards Against Humanity”. :))

My only question is-did you have to google some of the terms, and did you have to wipe your browser history afterwards? lmbo…

@MotherOfDragons, you’re right! i had to google terms. Still shaking my head! My question is how did these 18 yr olds already know these things???

Games: i also really enjoy the game scattergories – the older 90s version. Its fun in a group.

I’m looking forward to trying some of these games mentioned. My youngest D and I’ve spent many afternoons at starbucks having “tournaments” with playing cards of all sorts. Kings corner, Trash, 31 scat, gin rummy, cribbage, nerds and others.

When it comes to card games, i often download the games as an app first, learn how to play, then hope to find someone real to play against.

Bananagrams, Racko, Clue, Scrabble and one of our family favorites, Parcheesi. For nostalgia, at least my daughters and I still might enjoy a game of Uncle Wiggily if we ever locate it in our basement.

My Ds love playing Cards Against Humanity and seeing if H and I understand some of the terms on the cards!

Dutch Blitz. Even your dud-of-a-husband would like it.

^Oh, I love the special Scrabble words! Qi, Aa, Te, etc. Makes it so much easier to play the game!

It depends on ages and types of games you enjoy. I’d recommend checking out the site at https://www.boardgamegeek.com/browse/boardgame . If you click on a game, they will list the portion of reviewers that recommend the game for 3 people, recommended ages, how complex it is to learn, how long it takes, etc. Among the well ranked games I’ve tried, I particularly like Dominion. You can try it online for free at playdominion.com . Some of the others also have free versions online.
