Isn’t street smarts the same as common sense?

I’m book smart, but when it comes to everyday-life stuff, I’m not that smart about it. I could never make it in a place like the Broncs.

I’m book smart, but when it comes to everyday-life stuff, I’m not that smart about it. I could never make it in a place like the Broncs.

^You can’t even spell it! (Bronx)

Sorry, I just had to point it out. I’m aware of how typo-laden my posts are.

We should decide on a definition on street smarts before first.

Street smarts >>>

or else you would not survive here.

I thought I probably spelled it wrong, but I still got the point accross.

Street smarts: Intuitive intelligence or reasoning power not gained by formal education; Shrewd awareness of how to survive in an often hostile urban environment.

^By the first part of that definition, tons of things could be considered “street smarts”. Anything non-academic that you know…the ability to read or understand or interact with people, for example, or the ability to know when to keep your mouth shut.

Street smarts: like stopping, looking, and listening when you cross the street?

The 'street smartness" is pretty much a myth. I grew up spending a lot of time on streets playing “hit-a-wall-with-a-bicycle” game, coming home after midnight (at the age of 10) , constantly fighting, and collecting bottles after drunkards to make a little bit of cash. If you think I’m exceptionally social or something you’d be wrong.
Doesn’t help me talking to girls I like a bit, unfortunately… are there any other social skills I need?
And I’m spending a Saturday night telling about how I grew up on street to some online people I will never know in person. Is that street smarts? Well, I didn’t live in ghetto… maybe there it’s any better.
