You might be interested to note that the “F” that UF uses came from Florida State. (Your Gator buddy I’m sure will find this fascinating ;))

In 1905, when the Florida Legislature decided to segregate the various colleges by sex and race in the Buckman Act, all male students were required to attend the newly created university in Gainesville (UF). The FSC football team was required to go with the young men, and the symbol of the Florida State team was a large “F”.

Here’s a graphic of that team from Wikipedia: [Image:Florida State rc01140.jpg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Florida_State_rc01140.jpg)

The “F” Club remained at FSU, however, and may be seen in various graphics located around campus in the Legacy Walk: [Florida State University :: Legacy Walk](Home - FSU Legacy Walk)

The story and more history of FSU may be found on Wikipedia, along with many period graphics: [Florida State University - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Florida State University - Wikipedia)
