Booking Airbnb/Vrbo - Your Tips and Strategy

Love that idea - thanks! Also looked at some Aparthotels before opting for traditional hotel (2 people).

I’ve learned it’s worthwhile to send a few messages to hosts to see if they respond and how quickly. It can also clear up any questions about the rental, potential late checkout, smoking policy, appliances, etc. We read all the reviews of all the places we were considering.

The superhosts tend to be very prompt in responses where as other hosts might take several hours and never fully answer the question(s) posed. I did let those whom we didn’t choose know why we didn’t choose. I also let one that we booked (but ultimately canceled) that they were just too far from surgeon but we will keep them in mind for future bookings—the lodging is quite close to our friends’ house. I didn’t want the superhost we canceled on to think it was anything she did or didn’t do.

We wanted to stay in the same Airbnb as we did last year. But the dates weren’t available. I sent an Airbnb message to the host, and they said they would love to host us again and the dates would be open 3 months prior. I watched day after day.

When the week came for that three month window, I realized that the place was opening day by day…so I messaged the host again. Within five minutes, he wrote and said he over rode the three months and all our dates were available. I booked immediately!

I was so pleased with this that we are taking them some treats made in our town by our local farms (jelly, granola, cookies, etc). Really, this host went above and beyond. And the place is perfect!

Thanks @Marilyn. I will take that under advisement when planning my travel.
