Books to read

NUmber the stars by Lois Lowry is an uplifting book about jews during WWII- it is based on a true tale involving the Danish resistance who managed to get almost their entire Jewish population to safety with the support of their king.
When my daughter was in elementary school, they read texts in class, but also had book groups once a week led by parent volunteers in groups of 5-8. I had a very interesting group in 5th grade- no rhyme or reason how they were put together, of course that was the year that her teacher was AWOL so the sub that ran the classroom was eager for any assistance.
Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Patterson is the story of two friends who both love to run, whose lives are changed forever by a tragic accident.
The Giver is also by Lois Lowry a very thought provoking book about a 12 year olds growing disillusionment with his outwardly futuristic uptopian society.
Tuck everlasting is a wonderful book by Natalie Babbit about a young girl who is faced with the choice of eternal life .

So that explains why some people in high school here read really really slow out loud…they never learned in elem. school…(yes, i’m serious).

Some of these books, my kids actually read them a few times over, each time she interprets them a little bit different/deeper depends on how much she has grown. The one she does not like, she only read them once.
