Not to mention Parker House rolls!
Excellent suggestions but I’m not sure the swan boats will be operating in mid March. But do check. The public garden is very nice. Make sure you see the ducklings from Make Way for Ducklings!
I was coming here to say this! Modern all the way. Prezza is excellent - for a lower cost option, Antico Forno is also wonderful. Walk down Newbury St, walk through the South End - brunch at Myers & Chang is fantastic. Tatte and Flour are good bakeries. I also second the rec for Hotel Commonwealth - Eastern Standard reopened and is wonderful. The Seaport is really fun and has great restaurants. All of Boston is super walkable so if you don’t need one, don’t rent a car - it’ll be expensive and Boston driving is not for the faint of heart.
Is your daughter interested in Wellesley? I think it has the prettiest campus in Boston so I’d check it out for sure.
BU grad here - it’s been a while so some of my favorite old haunts are no longer, but over the summer I took S24 to check it out because he kept saying he might want to follow in my footsteps (as suspected, city life is not for him, but glad we went to confirm that).
While we were there, we stopped at Audubon on Beacon Street right next to my old apartment in South campus. It used to be a bit of a dive bar but it has been revamped into a fantastic little brunch spot with 100% the BEST burger I’ve ever had. If you’re able to coordinate a stop there while touring BU I highly recommend it.
We found some great deals on a hotel near the Prudential which was awesome for a “central” location, near transportation, near food, shopping, etc. We also did a Duck Tour, which I had always refused to do in my younger years, and it was excellent - great way to see the city and the staff were very entertaining.
I recommend wandering down Newbury St just to check it all out, especially if it’s nice out. The Public Library is pretty special if you have the time. Also gotta second Modern Pastry and the North End in general.
Have a blast!!
Was going to make this exact suggestion! Such a cute neighborhood and it’s easy enough to get there from BU via a quick ride on the T from Kenmore Square or a nice 15-20 minute walk from campus that you get a lot of students hanging out there.
My daughter is a freshman at Emerson. Echo eating at the North End, walking the Freedom Trail and shopping Newbury Street. Boston is so walkable, and if you’re not a walker, the T makes it so easy to get around. Specific restaurants we’ve liked are Q in Chinatown and the Black Lamb in the South End.
She has a Tatte below her dorm on the Commons. You must try the chocolate snail.
Thanks for continuing to add recommendations. I now have quite a list of excellent places to check out thanks to you all. Excited to eat and explore our way through Boston in March.
