same waiting!
My son is in the same boat. I was told unless your paying full tuition and are from a prep school no matter your grades you’ll never come off the waitlist. So not looking good for my inner-city kid with blue collar parents even though he has been a straight A student.
@tbdwherehegoes How would they know if you are paying full tuition or not? Do they look at FAFSA?
@AwaitingApplicant131 I imagine the admissions office can check with the FA office before an offer is extended. Often schools have run out of FA funds by the time they go to the waitlist but it varies by school.
Not true at BC. Hang in there.
Good luck.
I hope that’s true.
That’s exactly what I was told. There is another boy in our town who is on the BC waitlist that I know but he goes to prep school. He even admits that my son should get in over him because of higher grades and test scores. Time will tell.
@AwaitingApplicant131 They pay closer attention to financial need on waitlist.
BC really doesn’t need the money with the huge endowment. In fact the usnwr category on pell Grant admits and outcomes will move the needle the other way.
They will look to fill buckets of institutional needs. Majors. Lower ses. Ethnicity geography talents and yield. Make sure they know you will attend if admitted. Do it again. And do it today.
Honestly folks the last thing they need are wealthy catholic or private school kids from the northeast. That bucket filled ea. It’s just they may only need 16 like two years ago or the 70 or so last year. 3000 on a waitlist. And 100 spots is 3 percent chance. Lower than med school.
Waiting on this last school!
I heard someone called and was told that it doesn’t look likely that they will go to the waitlist. Anyone else hear anything?
If anyone hears anything back, please let us know! I’m dying lol
Called them! They said they will start looking at waitlists on monday/tuesday and roll out answers starting late next week!
The only thing harder than getting into BC via a wailist, is getting into BC as a transfer student- with the possible exception of getting into CSOM as a transfer student -from another BC School!
If you do get off the waitlist, how do they tell you? Do they call the school? Or your phone number?
@tbdwherehegoes @AwaitingApplicant131 I got in off the waitlist last year and I went to a public school. Not a prep school or charter or IB. Just a regular public school. I got an email June 4th with an attached letter and had 5 days to accept. So keep an eye on your email and be ready to make a decision quick. I can say I am very fortunate I was able to accept without waiting for financial aid. I’m not full pay, but I was going to do whatever I could to go here. Good luck. Finals this week! Go Celtics and Bruins
@privatebanker you are naive if you think the private school kid doesn’t have the advantage. I will be shocked if my kid gets in over his prep school friend. As we have seen on the news the past few months, money blurs lines. And I’m not saying that accepting a private school kid who doesn’t need money over a public school kid who needs money is unethical, I’m just saying lets be honest.Hopefully BC proves me wrong.
Naive. Lol. I’m a lot things but that’s not one. Your student won’t be selected or not selected because of the school they attended. It’s much more complicated than that for schools at this level of competitiveness. If anyone actually gets off the wait list this year it will be a miracle.
Last year they admitted 8200 students and had a 27 yield. They barely went to the wait list. This year the accepted over 9000 and had a higher academic profile. So it seems reasonable to assume they won’t need many from the Wl. Two years ago it was 16 total. Last year around 75. It will be in that type of range at most.
@privatebanker didn’t mean to insult you with naive. i apologize if you took it that way. Do you know the demographics of the 16 or 75 waitlist kids?
If the financial aid budget is already tapped out with the kids already enrolled, then the WL kids will be full pay. If they have budget left to spend, then they can take financial aid kids. Prep school vs public school will only play a role in the WL, if they need more of that group. WL offers tend to be made to round out the class. I do disagree slightly with privatebankers contention that accepting higher stats kids in the EA and RD rounds means less chance for the WL to be used. Those high stat kids may have had a bunch of other offers, so may have enrolled elsewhere. But since they accepted more this year than last, any WL action will likely be small.
