Do Harvard and Stanford’s Bs and Cs look better than someone coming from BC with an A- ?

You’re right BlueBayou that my comment is more of personal anecdote than top level statistic but I’ve seen the grade distributions for some of my son’s class and (granted) there are few C’s but there are just as many B’s as there are A’s so I think that at least in some departments Harvard has countered their old grade inflation rap.

Regarding HopefulEagle86’s questions about whether Boston College A-'s are worth the same as Stanford or Harvard B’s or C’s, I don’t know what the answer is but I oversee hiring at my company and I’d definitely hire a “go getter” with a good attitude from BC over an “A” grad from Harvard with a mediocre attitude. Some industries (like hedge funds) definitely limit themselves to top Ivy math/physics students but I think they are doing themselves a disservice. Believe me, there are plenty of dysfunctional, odd kids at Harvard- they may be very “bright”, but they aren’t always “smart” or “wise”.
