Boston safety questions

side topic:

  • Being Asian and going to Chinatown where not every store takes credit cards, I’ve gotten my kids to always keep a $100 bill hidden in their wallets.
You probably won’t need it, but it’s good to have it there.
    Same for in my car.

and under the mattress

just continuing the Asian stereotype/joke

My daughter works in a field where she has no choice but to be out after midnight, often because something good happened. Some people are out after midnight because they have to address something bad that is happening. Cities operate 24/7, and not everyone is in a position to sequester themselves away when the sun goes down.

All members of my family keep an emergency $20 in their wallet as a backup if they run out of cash.

We call those “tuckies.”

Everyone should carry cash.

Lol my kids don’t even head out until after 10. Bars close between 2 and 3.

I didn’t say people can’t, or shouldn’t be out after midnight. I spent a lot of my career out after midnight.

It’s a saying that highlights the need for more vigilance after midnight.

My son is in law enforcement and works 7pm - 7am. He chose that shift because that’s when the action is.

Having just this week returned from a trip to Boston, I’ll note that some bakeries and restaurants in the North End only take cash! And granted we were the areas along the Freedom Trail along with tons of tourists but I commented on the lack of people panhandling or living on the streets which hasn’t been my experience in other cities lately. I don’t know the reason but I’ll hope it’s because Boston offers resources to prevent that situation. I’ll also give it high marks for friendliness because when we couldn’t get our paper tickets to let us into the T station, a 20-something young woman stopped to help and then insisted on scanning us in with her pass.
