Grundy’s hiring calls into serious question the competence either of a) the BU hiring committee that supposedly vetted her and then offered her a position, or of b) the dominant ethos of elite higher education in the contemporary US, an ethos which seems to regard her vindictive, ill-written drivel as an exemplary instance of “speaking truth to power.” If it’s the first option, then BU is in trouble; if it’s the second option, then we’re all in trouble . . . big time.
