I forgot about free food. When I was a grad student at UNC-CH, the Hari Krishna provided a free dinner every Wednesday night. We all lined up for a meal. It was great.

I was also able to bake cakes, pies, tarts, whatever to relieve stress because I knew I could take my baked goods to the student lounge and within two hours, everything would be gone.

Even now, when my department has a seminar they may have sandwiches, salad and drinks. Afterwards, the leftover its always placed in the kitchen for any and all to partake. Some departments even send out email to tell people about the food.

First real recipe I gave my son in college was a beer bread recipe. He and his roommates did many crazy variations and it was a fun, easy way to be introduced to baking from scratch. This earned them a badge of cooking wizardy from their friends.

The boys also used and wore out a number of Foreman grills…not much clean up.

My fiance likes to scramble an egg with some egg whites and throw it on a flour tortilla with a slice of bacon and maybe some cheese, for breakfast or dinner. Very filling, lots of protein, and low carb-- his favorite. Assuming your son eats like a grown up and NOT like my fiance, spinach or peppers or something would make a good addition-- maybe even ham. We also like to buy frozen chicken breasts and we’ll marinate them in lite italian dressing and bake in the oven and serve with brown rice from the rice maker. You can make chicken breasts in a hundred different ways and it’s cheap and easy… it’s basically all we eat these days! Tacos are super easy, too.

I think he lived off of scrambled eggs, peanut butter toast, yogurt, protein bars, and popcorn in his bachelor days, to be honest, and was no worse for wear when I found him. He’s a great cook but left to his own devices that is all he would eat and he’d love it.

He sounds like my former supervisor and now friend.

Great cook with a lot of talent. He just hates the amount of work to prep, cook, and clean up afterwards and regards it as a painful chore only to be done for friends coming over to visit.

He’s admitted to me that if left to his own devices, he’d rather eat cereal with milk, simple pbj or coldcut sandwiches, protein bars, some fruit or something else along what you listed.

OP here. Glad to report S survived that week , tough I am sure he was thrilled to go back to eating at the Marketplace again Thanks for all your great suggestions !
